Andi saw Goodie Bo-long go pale, but she kept her chin up and refused to betray any fright.

“Here, boys,” she called to the Manimals. “Here Manny…here, Gobi. Do you want to mount me? Come on—don’t be shy.”

There were murmurs of disgust and anger at her words but the moment the two women let the Manimals off their leashes and collars, they both rushed at Goodie Bo-long, growling in fury.

“Wait! No, wait!” Goodie Bo-long’s voice suddenly went high with fright. “I said mount me—you can both mount me as much as you want. Manny, down—get down. Gobi, my sweet boy, you don’t want to do that, do you? No! Noooo!”

Her words cut off with a shriek and a gurgle as a gout of green blood rose in the air.

Andi turned her head—she couldn’t watch. She’d already seen enough to turn her stomach because it was clear that both Manimals were in a killing fury and not in the mood to mount their former Mistress at all.

There were horrible wet tearing sounds and awful screaming. Andi plugged her ears with her fingertips as best she could and squeezed her eyes tightly closed.

I won’t watch and I won’t listen! she told herself fiercely. I won’t…I can’t! If I do, I’ll never sleep again!

But despite trying to block everything out, she still heard Mother Strict-ezz’s bugling voice when she shouted,

“Now for the other whore! Send in her Manimal and let her have a taste of what’s coming to her!”

Oh God…oh no!

Andi’s eyes flew open and she saw the gate to her enclosure opening. Suddenly, Cade was there. Though he had mostly walked upright as a Manimal, now he was on his hands and knees and his eyes…

His eyes…dear God, his eyes are red!

Andi felt her stomach flip and her blood turned to ice water in her veins. This might be her own death she was seeing in the eyes of the big Hybrid. This might be the end of her. If Cade decided he would rather kill her than mount her, he could do it with no trouble at all. Already she could see the tips of his fangs, extending down past his top lip and a low growl was rumbling in his deep throat…

Suddenly she remembered Goodie Bo-long’s advice when she’d asked what to do in this situation.

“Submit!” she’d said. “Offer him your cunny and pray he’d rather knot you than rip your throat out!”

But how well had taking her own advice worked for the other woman?

Not well, whispered the little voice in her head. Not very well at all.

Still, what else could she do? There was nowhere to run—even if she’d been able to outrun the big Hybrid, which she definitely couldn’t. They were locked in the enclosure together and the fence was un-climbable—its thin metal slats were all vertical. So running was out, climbing was out, and fighting was most definitely out.

All she could do was submit and hope for the best.

Andi felt very small and helpless as she knelt slowly in the tall grass. It felt cold and ticklish on her bare skin. She still had on the short skirt and loose silk blouse she’d been wearing when she was arrested at the Emporium but of course, no underwear or bra. It would be easy enough to offer herself to her Protector, who was currently crawling towards her as sinuously as a big cat.

“Cade,” she whispered, as she knelt before him. “Cade, you’re my Protector. You swore an oath never to hurt me—you promised you would die before you’d let me come to harm. Do you remember that? Do you?”

She thought maybe she saw a flicker in those red, lust-filled eyes, but she wasn’t sure. She couldn’t tell if she was getting through at all or not. If only she knew if the antidote was still in his system! If only she knew if it had taken effect yet. If it hadn’t, Cade might come back to himself at any time. If, however, they had missed their window of opportunity, well…

Then I’m in big trouble, Andi thought to herself. The worst trouble I’ve ever been in my whole life!

“Cade?” she tried, coaxingly again, holding out a hand to him. “Please…”

But he was on her suddenly, a snarl on his lips as he loomed over her, his red eyes burning into hers. Andi shrank back in fear—oh God, he was going to kill her! What was she going to do?”

“Give him your throat!”

It was the same, soft, feminine voice that had comforted her in the cell, Andi realized. But she felt frozen in place, unsure if she was hearing it right.

“Bare your throat for him,” the voice instructed. “You must offer a sign of submission that the beast part of him understands, daughter. After that, all else will follow.”

Andi wanted to ask what else would follow, but the low, rumbling growl was rising in Cade’s thick throat and his eyes were burning. She had to calm him somehow, she realized—had to show him she meant him no threat and that she was willing to submit to him. She had to do what the voice had told her.
