She was only half joking about that. Lou happened to know Erin hadn’t been happy with her baby boy following in their footsteps. She’d wanted him to go to college.

She’d asked what colleges she might be able to get TJ into that were close to MIT. Erin had thought if he could be around her, TJ might get over his “I’m not smart enough for college” thing.

She’d been wrong. Everyone always told her TJ would come around. Well, they’d told her that in high school and college, and then they’d told her to give up on him and get a life.

Just as she’d started to take good advice, he’d pulled her back in.

“Baby, I’m so tired,” he whispered. “Can we go to bed?”

Kala made a gagging sound.

Lou brushed back his hair, looking down at him. His eyes were closed, and he looked oddly peaceful with his big body stuffed into a too small space. “I’ll make sure you get into bed.”

“Stay with me.” He rubbed his cheek against her leg. “Stay with me, and in the morning, we’ll do it right. We’re together now, LouLou. No going back.”

But they weren’t, and they would be going back. He was going to wake up and regret everything he’d done.

This was it. This was the break. This was the end for them, and she had to find a way so they weren’t the most awkward duo in the history of time when they saw each other at family functions. Or the club.

Sir. She’d called him Sir and it felt real and natural. Her whole body had gone soft and submissive.

She needed to cry but she couldn’t start. If she started, she wouldn’t stop, and she could only handle so many emotions at once. No. She was going to suck it up, go a little cold, a bit numb.

She could still feel the way the knife had slid into that man’s neck, feel the fine hot spray of his blood as it hit her cheek.

A shiver went through her.

“Don’t be scared, baby. I’m going to take care of you,” TJ whispered. “I won’t let them hurt you.”

“Sure you will, TJ,” Kala said with a sigh. “Yeah, you’re going to save Lou, dumbass.”

“Don’t.” She wasn’t sure why, but irritation flashed through her. No. She did know why. “Don’t call him dumb.”

Kala’s eyes widened. “Oh, shit. You’re into this.”

“I am not.” She couldn’t be. “Like I said it was emotional and stressful, and we gave in. It was probably inevitable, but it won’t happen again. He’s going to wake up and be horrified, and I need to figure out how to get around the whole ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ speech I’m likely going to get. When’s the first flight out?”

“Oh, it’s not that easy,” Zach promised. “We’ve got a debrief after Romeo here is fully awake, and then Big Tag is going to have a talk with our friend. We don’t leave for at least twenty-four hours and we’re on the smaller jet, so I’m sure we’ll all get to listen in on your therapy session. Shit. He’s already out. I thought we might be able to smuggle Lou in.”

Cooper pulled up a long, private drive that led to a big cabin. If one didn’t know what to look for, it would appear to be an inconspicuous ski chalet, but she could see the signs that this place was heavily fortified and secured.

Big Tag stood on the lawn along with his brother and sister-in-law. Tasha was on the porch, biting her bottom lip, as though she knew there was about to be a huge scene. The door opened, and Kenzie practically sprinted out, racing to the car.

Big Tag stood there, his hands in fists at his hips. He was the biggest, baddest authority figure in her world, and he’d now seen how much she enjoyed oral sex.

She’d never enjoyed oral before. It was weird, and she couldn’t get comfortable or relax enough to enjoy it.

But TJ hadn’t allowed her to get self-conscious. He’d overwhelmed her with pleasure, so she didn’t think about anything but him.

Cooper stopped the car, and Kenzie was right there, hauling the door open.

“Lou, are you okay?”

“Yes, Lou’s okay. Lou’s probably the loosest, most relaxed one here since she’s so recently discovered my nephew’s tongue,” Big Tag announced, his eyes wide. “That is not something I should ever have to see, Lou. What the hell am I going to tell your father?”

“Nothing because it’s classified,” she tried, easing out of the car, though she didn’t want to leave TJ. She wanted to sit there until right before he woke up, longed for this warm time when he seemed to want her because he thought they were back in that place.

Big Tag ignored her reasonable suggestion. “I have to tell Boomer because your bride price is now heartily reduced. I’m sure he was going to trade you for goats or something.”
