“That’s different, angel. Nobody but me will ever get to hear the sexy-as-fuck sounds you make when you come,” he explained as he lifted me off his lap and got to his feet. After dropping a quick kiss on my lips, he stomped over to the door and flung it open. “What the fuck do you want, Scout?”
“I figured you could use a break from watching over Cat’s girl, so I’m going to bring her with us to the shooting range,” Scout explained.
I saw Link’s hands fist at his sides, so I came up behind him and stroked my hand down his back in a comforting gesture as I greeted my friend’s man, “Hey, Scout.”
“Hey, Harlowe.” He flashed me an apologetic grin. “Sorry I’ve been gone since you got here.”
“No worries,” I reassured him as I threaded my fingers through Link’s. “I’ve been well taken care of.”
Scout’s gaze dropped to our hands, and his brows arched. He was about to say something else when Cat strode down the hallway and elbowed him in the side. “Seriously? I told you Harlowe was fine and to leave them alone.”
“You know me better than that, kitty cat.” Scout flung an arm around her shoulders. “Huntley sent her to me for protection, so she’s my responsibility.”
“There are a few things we need to get clear here,” Link growled.
“Oh, boy. Here we go,” Cat sighed, her eyes twinkling with a knowing gleam.
“Harlowe isn’t Cat’s girl, she’s my angel. And she damn well isn’t your responsibility. As her man, I’ll be the one keeping her safe,” he declared.
“Her man?” Scout echoed. “How the fuck long was I gone?”
Link ignored his question and shifted his attention to Cat. “Is it ready?”
“Yup, I just finished it this morning,” she answered with a grin.
“Get everyone together downstairs,” Link ordered. “I want to do this publicly so there’s no misunderstandings about Harlowe in the future.”
“What in the world are you two talking about?” I asked, feeling as though they were speaking a foreign language I didn’t understand.
Scout didn’t seem to have the same problem. He nodded, and a big grin spread across his face as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and fired off a text. “Well, shit. If that’s the way things are, then I guess she’s not my responsibility anymore.”
“She hasn’t been since she got here,” Link grumbled, pressing his hand on my lower back to guide me into following Scout and Cat.
I turned my head to look over my shoulder as he shut and locked the door behind us. “What about the vest?”
“You won’t need it,” Link assured me.
Assuming he meant it wasn’t necessary because he had no plans to leave my side, I muttered, “Okie dokie.”
Cat paused at the door to her and Scout’s room and waved us ahead. “I’ll be right behind you guys. I just need to grab something before I head downstairs.”
The guys didn’t clue me into what was happening, but I wasn’t too worried since I trusted all three of them. When we walked into the big open area where everyone tended to hang out, more than a dozen people were waiting for us. I spotted a few familiar faces, including Dom over by the bar. I caught the flash of his shit-eating grin before he ducked his head when Link glanced in his direction.
“Listen up,” Scout yelled, drawing everyone’s attention his way. “Link has an announcement to make.”
Link nudged me forward a little, and curious gazes darted from his face to mine. Then Cat raced into the room and handed him a leather vest. I figured she’d gone back for the one I’d left behind, and I got even more confused. “I thought you said I didn’t need it?”
“I didn’t get that one from your room,” Cat whispered before moving to stand beside her man.
“I know you’ve all heard why Harlowe is here, and some of you have seen her around the clubhouse wearing either my or Larissa’s cut.” Link shook out the leather material Cat had handed him, and I finally understood what was happening when I saw the Property of Link patch stitched on the back. My eyes widened, and my heart raced in my chest. I still had a lot to learn about the MC lifestyle, but I knew what that patch meant. And I was one hundred percent on board with what Link was about to do. My smile was blinding as he continued, “They worked as temporary fill-ins while I was having this made for her.”
“You making her your old lady already?” one of the guys called out.
“Damn straight,” Link replied as he slid my arms through the holes and pulled the vest into place. “When a smart man finds the perfect woman, he nails that shit down so nobody else tries to steal her away from him. You guys trust me with your money, so you sure as fuck know I have plenty of brain cells left.”
