“It’s both good for you and delicious. Try it.” Bear handed her a fork and gestured toward the bowl. He pulled out another sealed portion and opened it up.

Daisy watched him take a large bite and chew with enjoyment before she scooped up a small taste. Slowly, she placed the sample in her mouth to try. Crisp freshness tantalized her tastebuds as she ate.

“Yum! This is really good, Daddy,” she enthused.

“I’m glad you like it,” he answered with a knowing smile.

“Maybe you should open a restaurant?”

“No way. I’d be there day and night and wouldn’t have any time to spend with my Little girl. Ellie’s business is booming. She decided this morning that she needs me full time.”

“Congratulations! This means you won’t have to look for another job, right?”

“That’s right. I’ll work at Little Cakes during the day and at Blaze in the evenings that you wish to go visit the club. Evan is ready to take over for me if I’m not there.”

“That’s perfect,” she celebrated before taking another bite of salad.

“Everything seems to be falling into place. What do you think about painting flowers in the nursery one day soon?” he asked, naming a day when both Little Cakes and Blooms by Daisy were closed.

“I’d love that.” She hesitated for a minute before adding, “Unless you’d rather not. The room is beautiful as it is.”

“No way. I think you’re right. It needs flowers everywhere to match the Little girl I created it for.”

“I won’t go crazy,” she promised.

“Maybe I will,” he suggested, taking the empty container from her.

“Is it all gone? That was yummy.”

“I’ll make more for you. Here, try this next.” He offered her half a sandwich.

Daisy took a bite and chewed. It was good. She just liked the salad better. Eyeing his still full container, she suggested, “You wouldn’t want to swap, would you?”

Laughing, he handed her his bowl. “Eat, Baby girl.”

He polished off her surrendered half sandwich in three bites. When he offered her another half, Daisy lifted the bowl toward him to indicate she had more left to eat.

“This was so good,” she complimented when the bowl was empty. Daisy ran a finger along the sides to pick up the last few morsels that had escaped her fork.

“I’m glad you liked it. Want part of a sandwich or your cupcake now?”

“Cupcake.”

Daisy watched him open the box and extract one perfect yellow cupcake. Shocked at the sight of it out of the box, she dropped her jaw open as the white chocolate daisy decoration appeared pressed into the side of the frosting. “Do all of them have a flower?”

“Yes. And not just a flower, but a daisy.”

Tears sprang to her eyes. “You made this for me?”

“Don’t cry, Baby girl. You haven’t even taken a bite yet,” he teased. “That’s going to make you weep again.”

She peeled back the wrapper and took a small bite, trying to get both frosting and cake. Delicious lemon flavor burst across her tastebuds. Daisy chewed quickly and took a larger taste.

“Good, huh?”

“This is the best,” she mumbled.

“Eat, then talk.”

Daisy swallowed and held the cupcake up to her nose to sniff. Looking at her Daddy over the frosting, she whispered, “I could live on these,” before taking another large bite.

“No, Baby girl. Cupcakes are a delicious treat, but not good for you to eat as every meal. You have to eat something from all the food groups to be healthy.”

“This has to have grains, fruit, and dairy in it,” she protested.

“Looks like I’m going to be in charge of making sure you eat properly,” he observed.

Daisy nodded her agreement with that statement before taking another bite and rolling her eyes upward in ecstasy.

“I can have these still, right?”

“As a special treat, definitely.”

“Yay! Are you going to eat yours?” she asked, eyeing his dessert still sitting in the box.

“You wouldn’t rob your Daddy of a cupcake, would you?”

“With those cupcakes? Definitely, yes!”

Daisy waited for Bear to answer but he was distracted. She followed his line of sight to focus on a battered sedan that cruised through the shopping area. “Do you know that person?”

“The tinted window keeps me from seeing who it is. The car has passed us three times.”

“That’s weird. Maybe they’re searching for a shop,” Daisy suggested.

“Maybe.”

“What color of paint should I get for the flowers?” Daisy questioned to distract him. She was pleased when Bear pulled his attention from the taillights of the car exiting the strip center to concentrate on her once again.

“I guess that depends on the type of flowers you want to create.”

“Let’s just get a bunch of pretty colors and see what happens.”

“Good idea, Baby girl. We’ll go get a variety after work tonight before we head to Blaze.” He pulled out his phone. “I’ll create a new note so we’ll remember what we need.”

Soon, it was time for them to return to work. As they passed Little Cakes, Daisy poked her head inside to give Ellie a thumbs up.
