Yeah, I had a feeling we were going to be needing a few more toys to use to play with our toy…and I was right, but I had to admit, Derek’s information was informative even if Joel was too out of it to appreciate any of it.
He managed a smile and a wave as we finally headed out of the store, with a new bag of fun and a lot to think about, but it wasn’t until we were halfway home that he looked around and realized where we were. “Oh, did…did I say goodbye to Derek?”
Before I could do more than nod, he kept going. “I…I was cute, right? He thought I was cute?”
“Do you remember your orgasm?” Tate was frowning, but I had a feeling that was more about being frustrated he needed to drive and had to look at the road. “How do you feel?”
“Floaty.” Joel yawned and relaxed back into the back seat. “And I think I need a nap.”
Oh yeah.
“Water first.” Derek had been great after the unexpected twist to the scene and made sure we’d left with water, but we’d wanted to make sure Joel wouldn’t accidentally drown first. “Careful. Then we’re going to talk before you get to take a nap.”
And hopefully keep him awake long enough that we didn’t have to figure out how to carry him inside.
Tate focused back on the road as we pulled away from the stoplight we’d been waiting at, but he wasn’t pleased about it. “He seems fine?”
“He seems like he’s half drunk, but yes, he’s in working order and not panicking.” Or looking like he regretted anything.
“Is he in pain?” Tate let out a deep breath as we got to the road the apartment complex was on. “He put it on his list, but I wasn’t sure what to expect.”
“Not that.” My dry response got a chuckle from Tate and he seemed to finally relax, but it made Joel blink.
When he finally put the half-empty bottle of water down on his lap, he looked down at his groin and frowned at it. “You were supposed to behave.”
“Nothing to worry about. He and his dick are just having a conversation about manners.” My honest but stupid explanation of what Joel was getting up to made Tate laugh. “He’s still in subspace to a large degree and doesn’t seem to be tracking reality yet.”
“All you had to do was go soft so everyone could see how cute you are and then get measured for your cage.” That had some more of Joel’s brain coming back online. “Oh, where’s my cage?”
Tate was a magician and produced the bag from the front seat before Joel could finish his question. “There you go but do not open any boxes until we get home.”
“Home?” Joel took his bag and peeked into it before he looked up and around. “Oh.”
As I wondered if putting him into subspace outside of the apartment had been a good idea, we finally made it back and Tate pulled into the parking lot. “Yes, you have your cages and toys, and we’re almost home. So you’re going to finish your water and then we’re going to take a nap.”
Because he was exhausted for a variety of reasons.
“With who?” Joel’s question sounded logical from his tone, but I was still thinking in terms of subspace and cock cages so it didn’t make any sense. “Who am I napping with? I can’t do it by myself any longer.”
Huh?
Why?
Was he hurt?
Worried about something?
“Partner rule?” Tate’s brain was working much better once he’d stopped worrying that he’d broken Joel.
Shit.
Partner rule.
Joel’s nod had more pieces falling into place. “If we’re board game special then I can’t sleep by myself anymore. Everyone knows that.”
Did they, though?
Chapter 17
Tate
He had to be making some of this shit up, right?
Dean was watching our drama queen with a very suspicious expression, but he didn’t immediately call him out on it either, which made me wonder. I wasn’t sure if him lying or being honest was the most ridiculous scenario, but either way, if he wanted someone to cuddle with that was reasonable.
“Alright.” Fuck it. I parked the car and decided to take the whole thing seriously. “We’ll make sure someone takes a nap with you.”
None of us had gotten enough sleep last night and it hadn’t been anywhere near actual quality rest, so a nap wasn’t a bad idea.
“Good.” Yawning again, Joel tipped over against Dean. “I need to be cuddled and put to bed.”
Dean’s head cocked as he turned to Joel, and I could see him remembering our conversation about how Joel wasn’t the most adulty adult we’d ever seen. “Finish your water first and then we’ll get you ready for your nap.”
It seemed like with all the bits Dean was uncomfortable with, Joel not being a full grown-up wasn’t one of them.
