“Okay,” I whisper, knowing we can have the Pitbull conversation another time. For now, I need to finish this night off right.

Chapter 16

XANDER

The sound of Charli stirring on Saturday morning wakes me, and I pull her into my arms, not ready for this sexy she-devil to leave my bed. “Good morning,” I grumble into her hair as I inhale deeply, breathing her in.

“Morning,” she murmurs against her pillow, turning in my arms so she can plant a kiss on my lips. “How’d you sleep?”

“Like a fucking baby with you beside me,” I say as I roll us over so I hover above her, letting her feel me everywhere.

“Hmm,” she groans as she closes her eyes and opens her legs. She reaches down between us and wraps her tight fist around my cock, pumping twice before guiding me to her sweet cunt.

“Ready for me?” I smirk as I push inside her, feeling the way her tight walls stretch around me, gently clenching as she lets out a satisfied moan.

“I was hoping for it,” she whispers as she looks up at me with those blazing blue eyes, her arms locking around my neck as I start to move, so fucking slowly it has us both desperate for more.

I keep moving, right up until I’ve got Charli right on the edge, ready to detonate. Only then do I reach down between us, grazing my fingers over her sensitive clit and picking up my pace. She gasps, her body jolting beneath me, and I watch as she explodes around me. Her walls clench and spasm as her orgasm tears through her. She digs her nails into my back and screams out my name, and the sound has me coming right along with her.

I press my forehead to hers as we both pant, trying to catch our breaths after the best fucking wake-up call a man could ask for. “I could get used to waking up like that,” she murmurs, before catching my lips in hers.

“Music to my ears.” Her lips lift in a soft smile against mine as those beautiful blue eyes shimmer with happiness. “Got any plans today?”

“No,” she says, a hint of suspicion in her tone.

“Good. I’m taking you out for breakfast,” I say, looking over at my clock. “Fuck. Make that lunch.”

“You’ve got yourself a date.”

An hour later, we’re sitting in a café, finishing lunch when my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out, hating the feeling of being rude on our date, and consider silencing it when I realize it’s Coach Harris calling.

My stomach drops, and I lose my appetite. “Shit,” I murmur. Charli notices the change, and her brows crease with concern as I hit accept.

“Hello,” I say into the phone, my gaze locked on Charli’s.

“Xander, it’s Coach Harris. I need to see you in my office. Now.”

Fuck.

I press my lips together, knowing exactly what this is about. Though, I thought I might have had a little more time. Well . . . I’d hoped, at least. There aren’t that many rounds left in the Underground, so I thought I could complete the competition before my world exploded and burned to ashes around me.

“Yes, Coach,” I sigh, preparing for the worst. “I’m around the corner.”

“Good,” he grunts, ending the call without so much as a goodbye.

“Is everything alright?” Charli asks as she reaches across the table and takes my hand in hers.

I let out a sigh before shaking my head. “That was Coach Harris. He needs to see me in his office, and judging by his tone, it’s not good.”

She cringes, sympathy in her sweet stare. “Does he know?”

“He didn’t say, but there’s no other reason he would drag me in on a weekend,” I explain, dropping some cash on the table and double-checking Charli’s finished with her lunch. “Did you want me to drop you at my place first?”

“No, it’s okay,” she says, forcing an encouraging smile across her face. “The rink is around the corner. It’d be silly to go home first. I can come. I mean . . . if you want me to,” she says, practically stuttering over her words as she tries to backtrack.

A small smile comes over my lips. “Sure, babe,” I say, realizing I’ll never tire of her quirky ways. “Though, there’s no chance in hell Coach will let you in his office. He’ll make you wait outside.”

“That’s fine,” she says, grabbing her bag and pushing out of her chair. She reaches for my hand and we walk out to my truck. “Come on,” she says, trying to perk me up. “He might let you stay on the team. You never know.”

“Thanks, babe,” I say as we climb up into the truck. “But if he knows about the Underground, he has no choice but to take me off the team. A player participating in illegal activities is grounds for immediate dismissal. My hockey career is over.”
