“I wish she could. She doesn’t do well with seeing through magic. This is all outside of her reach. Believe me, I’ve already asked.”
“Oh,” I say, feeling a little disappointed.
“Your bath is ready,” Arcadia says as she steps out of the bathroom.
I look up at her in confusion. I didn’t ask for them to run me a bath. Is that what they’ve been doing in there?
Seeming to read the confusion on my face, Arcadia smiles and moves closer to where we’re sitting. She perches on the edge of the bed. Sienna and Tala come out of the bathroom with smiles on their faces. The two are dressed in swimsuits, which I find odd.
“What’s going on?” I ask.
“Do you remember watching any movies with the VP recently?” Sienna asks.
I burst into laughter. “He did not ask you all to bathe me like Akeem from Coming to America.”
Arcadia produces a little sachet and begins to sprinkle rose petals onto the floor, proving my suspicions. I continue to laugh as I shake my head. We did watch the movie and I remember thinking that I would love to be pampered like that. I guess having a boyfriend who can hear and see your thoughts does have its benefits.
“Our king’s wish is our command. Come, he gave us specific instructions. You are to relax and allow us to pamper you.”
I turn to look at Nika. “Is this why you’ve been brushing my hair?”
“We were all given a task to do. You are loved, Taylor. Bradan only wants to prove that to you,” she replies.
Curious as to what they’ve been up to in the bathroom and what Bradan’s instructions were, I jump up off the bed. Arcadia and Sienna continue to drop rose petals on the floor as I follow them and pad to the bathroom.
My breath is taken away as I walk into the transformed bathroom. When I say transformed, I mean the place looks like it’s been demolished and remodeled into a dream bathroom, not the basic bachelor bathroom that was here since my first time here at the clubhouse.
“Wow,” I breathe as I look around at the space.
It’s gorgeous. From the sunken tub, the glass tiles on the walls and the new countertop with double sinks. It’s like Bradan pulled a page from a luxury magazine.
“How long has he been planning this? When was this all done?”
Nika snickers. “From the time you two walked back into the clubhouse today. He told us you were back, and we were to meet you here in the room. You are mated to a demigod. This was nothing for him to do.”
“I wish I had your luck,” Tala says.
“This is awesome, but you guys aren’t really going to get in there with me to bathe me, are you?” I say with a raised brow.
“That’s the plan,” Sienna says, placing her hands on her hips. “You’re not about to get me in trouble with my alpha or your mate.”
I laugh. “I promise not to get you in trouble, but you guys really don’t have to get in there with me.”
“It is an honor to be chosen to serve you. Please don’t take that from us. We’ve been given a task. Allow us to honor our packs and be able to tell our pups of the time when we got to serve the queen of the might King Bradan.”
“When you put it that way, how can I refuse,” I say with a small laugh.
They help me to get out of my sweats and then help me to step down into the bath. The water temperature is perfect. Not too warm, not too cool.
I sink down into the water and sigh. Tension I hadn’t even noticed I was holding floats from my body. The ladies begin to wash my legs and arms with warm, fluffy sponges as I sit on the little bench seat beneath the water.
In this moment I feel like a true queen. I can’t help but wonder what makes the packs so loyal to Bradan. Fighting for someone is one thing. Being willing to bathe their mate is another.
“What makes the packs so fiercely loyal to Bradan? I mean, you guys see him like family. I can’t help but get the feeling that you all see him in as high regard as you do your alphas,” I say after a long stretch of silence.
“We do. If not higher,” Sienna says. “I have known him since I was a pup and he’s been a fixture in the pack for as long as I’ve been alive.”
“Longer than that,” Arcadia says. “According to the myths and stories of our people. We wolves were supposed to be fire folk, but something went wrong during the ceremony as some ancient war between the gods broke out.”
Nika then begins to speak. “The stories say the moon goddess was the equivalent of what humans would call a godmother to Bradan. Our people were her gift to him. They were meant to be his companions and friends. We were never given the full gift of fire, although we run hot. Something happened that kept the moon goddess from completing her gift and making us whole.”
