“Keep your legs spread. Let the warm water ease your soreness,” he commanded as he moved onto her torso.
His soft and soothing touch shouldn’t have aroused her… But this was Khadar touching her. She knew how he could make her feel. When he didn’t use any of his super sexy Daddy moves, Lalani was disappointed.
“No pouting, Princess. I will enjoy your sweet curves completely at another time.”
“I feel better now,” she assured him.
“I’m glad.”
Snorting at his obvious stubbornness, Lalani dropped one hand from the edge of the tub into the water. A plume of water spouted up and splashed over Khadar’s powerful chest.
“I didn’t mean to do that,” Lalani assured him.
“Right,” he answered skeptically.
“No, really. I’m sorry.”
“Apology accepted, Lalani. Next time, I’ll know it’s not an accident.”
“Yes, Daddy.”
In a short time, he finished bathing her. Khadar rose smoothly to his feet. “Stay there until I come back to help you out. It will be a few minutes before the water cools.”
“Um, Daddy.”
“I know, Princess. Being near you excites me.”
As he walked away, she waited to feel pain as the mate bond stretched between them. There was some discomfort, but the link had eased.
Princess. I am close.
You can still hear my thoughts?
Yes. Our connection is strong. If it bothers you, I can show you how to dampen it.
Sitting in the warm water, she wondered how much of what was going on in her brain she wanted him to know. Was it healthy for him to know what she was thinking? What if she got furious?
She waited for Khadar to comment on that thought, but he was quiet. There were many things that he decided for her. This seemed to be something she had control over. Lalani liked that Khadar trusted her either way. What man wanted to know if their woman was looking at another man?
Khadar appeared in the bathroom wearing jeans that hugged his thick thighs. As she devoured his appearance, Khadar walked toward her. She held up her hands for him to help her from the tub. Instead, he leaned over her to grip each side of her torso and lifted her effortlessly out of the water.
“You will not look at other dragons,” he breathed. That telltale flash of green told her to tread lightly.
“Of course not, Daddy,” she assured him as he wrapped a towel around her.
“Good girl.”
Chapter 6
Khadar! We need you.
“Princess, we need to go. There’s a problem on the border.”
“I get to go with you?” Lalani asked, looking nervous.
“Yes. The mate bond is still too strong for that distance. Wrap up your toast in a napkin and meet me by the front door,” he instructed, pointing from the dining room toward the correct path.
Thank goodness he’d prepared for this. Running into the bedroom, he opened a cabinet and grabbed a pair of headphones. Retracing his steps, he found the entryway empty. Following the mate bond, Khadar found Lalani in the kitchen. She’d made a wrong turn.
“This house is like a maze. I’m never going to find my way around it,” Lalani said with pink tinging her cheeks.
“You will. Give yourself a bit of grace. Soon you’ll be romping around like you’ve lived here forever.”
“What are those for?” she asked, pointing at the item he’d retrieved.
“To protect your ears.” He ushered her outside.
“From what?” she asked, allowing herself to be escorted out.
“I can get noisy. I don’t want your hearing damaged.”
“Oh. Okay.” She stood still as he adjusted them to fit comfortably on her head.
Moving away from the house, Khadar shifted rapidly. When Lalani was onboard, he launched himself into the air. Her awe and excitement at flying in the daylight made him remember how his first flight had blown his mind. He eavesdropped on her thoughts and appreciated seeing everything from the air.
Finish your breakfast.
Okay. Your dragon is very pretty. Your scales glow like your eyes.
Thank you, Princess.
Inside, his dragon felt like making happy loops. Controlling the distraction of his inner joy, Khadar focused on spotting the trouble that had forced the alert. There.
Khadar. Sorry to disturb you during your mating. Oldrik turned in a large circle over a forested section.
If something had disturbed the eldest dragon in the horde, Khadar was automatically concerned.
Oh, he’s pretty. All blue like water but with sparkles.
Remember that part about not looking at other dragons? Khadar reprimanded her.
I’m looking at his scales.
Harrumph.
Khadar, there is a group of rebels who attacked the settlers at the gate after asking for entrance into Wyvern.
Feeling Lalani stroking his neck to reassure him, Khadar switched his focus back to Oldrik’s update. The corridor leading to the gates controlled by the dragons was a safe zone. They only allowed people inside if they passed the screening and had some tie to Wyvern or a skill that was needed. The dragons’ guards protected those in line while they waited.
