“Marry me, Clara. Be more than my captive, my willing vessel. Be my wife. This ring is a bond stronger than any pair of handcuffs. If you’ll wear it, anyway.” The tiny box sits in my hand. I’ve had it for a week, knowing what I want but building myself up to finally ask the question.
I hear her audibly swallow, but soon she begins to nod with incredible enthusiasm. “Yes, Sebastian. Of course I’ll marry you.”
My heart pounds, equal parts amazement and relief coursing through me. I take the ring and slip it onto her finger, the excitement for our future together simply overwhelming.
I shoot up to my feet, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her so very close. A kiss follows, long and so damn powerful.
She giggles in glee. “There’s just one thing I’ve been thinking about when it comes to you and me, Sebastian.”
“What would that be?”
“Your home. Your mansion. It’s practically a modern-day castle.”
“I don’t think it’d fare very well in a siege, to be totally honest.”
“It’s more that it’s huge. It’s a whole lot for just the two of us.”
I chuckle. “It was built by my great grandparents who had seven kids. It’s been a very empty house for decades now, what with my parents only having one kid themselves.”
“I’ve always dreamed of having a big family myself,” she muses. “Growing up alone, I’ve wondered how things would have turned out if I had brothers or sisters. People I could turn to in trying times.”
“I wonder the same thing, about someone who could have told me I was in a miserable self-pitying funk for years on end.”
“Someone who could have tried to pull you out of that hole. You weren’t going to get out of there yourself, Sebastian.”
“I’m thankful I found you to help me.”
“And that required the stars to align. Just think about what would have happened if I’d had a lick of common sense and didn’t answer weird internet ads about willing vessels.”
“You having common sense would have been terrible. Just awful,” I laugh, holding her close, stroking her hair.
“We should make a family worthy of your home. Of our home.”
“Don’t take this the wrong way, my lovely, but what’s filled you with such desire for family all of a sudden?”
“I’ve had doubts these past few weeks about how sincere your feelings for me were. Maybe being such a sweetheart was some sort of roleplay for you. But proposing to me? There aren’t many ways I can take that.” She raises an eyebrow my way. “Why, do you not want a family?”
“Oh. No. I want everything you want. I want to see you swell up with my child, Clara. I want that family that I never had, that neither of us had. I want to be a better father than either of ours were. I want to see more smiles around the house, all of them brightening up these halls as much as yours does.”
“Then let’s do it. Let’s fill our home up with laughter and love, Sebastian. Let’s build a future together.”
I look at her with greater amazement than I ever have before.
A month ago, I was hopeless. A lone man, who believed he deserved nothing. Who lived in the lap of luxury and didn’t appreciate any of it because there was no one to share it with. She changed everything. Turned my world upside down in the best way possible.
Now? She’s offering me a family. And it feels so real. A distant hope of my past that I thought was gone forever.
Clara is the stuff of miracles.
She takes my hand as she breaks away from me. “Come on. Let’s go back inside. It’s a bit too chilly to get to it outside.”
“Desperate to get started, are we?”
“With as reckless as we’ve been, it’s a wonder I’m not pregnant already. But things like this take time, and I don’t think I’m going to hear complaints out of you about the work we need to do to make it happen.”
“Oh, no. Never.”
At the back door, I close it by pinning her against it. Kissing her strongly, desire overwhelms me. She kisses me right back, all while pushing my jacket off me, letting it slide down off me in a heap.
I need her. I need her now. My hands run up her thighs, delighting in her bare flesh, pushing her dress upwards. As I go to finger her through her underwear, I’m surprised by what I feel there. “No panties?”
“You always seem to rip them off me anyway, so I thought I’d come prepared.”
I chuckle. “You got a dirty mind, Clara.”
“You made it dirty. And I’m forever thankful for that.”
She gasps as I tweak her clit, the bliss rocking her. Our hands clamor on top of one another as we rush to pull off my belt and pull down my zipper. She reaches in and takes hold of my bulge. I wasn’t as forward thinking as she is, foolishly wearing underwear. It’s a problem solved easily enough. My pants and boxers hit the floor around my ankles as she jumps into my arms, her dress hiked up and her sex grinding against my abdomen.
