“I don’t think I can do this. It’s not worth the money or people he knows.” She sniffles. “No, it’s not his face. He’s still gorgeous above the waist.” She pauses as the person on the other end speaks. “No, I don’t think I can go through with it. It’s disgusting to look at and my face was so close. What will happen this week when we hit the beach?

“He can’t walk around in swim trunks looking like that. I think it goes down his leg.” She’s quiet again. “God, no. I’m never going to get to have that big cock inside me. It’s still beautiful, but I couldn’t look at it without seeing those burns out the corner of my eye.”

I have such a tight grip on the bathroom door handle I might break it. Then she places the nail in the coffin.

“No, I’m not being shallow. Let me get a picture for you. I’ll brave blowing him one more time as a pity blow and I’ll sneak a pic.”

I can no longer see reason. I storm out of the bathroom to the main area, whip out my dick, and piss on her dress and shoes that are tossed on the floor.

“You’re not even the hottest option I had. Fuck your pity. What you should pity is your ass. You should lay off the anal. You’re too young for diapers, but you’re well on your way there, Sweetheart. Get your shit and get the fuck out,” I bellow.

“How am I supposed to get home?”

“Do I look like I give a fuck? Ask your friend on the phone for a ride.”

“Oh my God, Stavros, I think he’s lost his mind.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? You’re talking to your ex? Get the fuck out, now.”

“In what? You just pissed on my things.”

“Next time, I’ll aim for you. Get out.”

Would I really piss on her? The old me wouldn’t, but at this point, I might. I feel crazy.

As if I’m losing everything. Fuck this bullshit. My grandfather is right. I still have options. Phoebe scrambles for her things as I show some decency and toss her a robe.

She sniffles as if her feelings are hurt and she hasn’t just crashed mine. If she can think this way, what will other women think? My life is over.

However, when I think of the life I saved to end up this way, I want nothing more than to hear her voice. It should be around three in the morning back home. I ignore the time and pull my phone out. The call is picked up on the fourth ring.

“Hey, Kelex.”

I pull the phone from my ear to look at the number I dialed as my groin tightens from the voice. I know right away this isn’t Skittles.

Although, like Skittles, her voice brings me a sense of calm. I amble over to the accent chair and flop down into it, leaning forward to place my elbows on my knees and take a calming breath.

“You there? It’s me, Shawna.”

“Yeah, I’m here, baby girl. Where’s Skittles?”

“Drunk and talking shit to Pit on my phone since he hung up on her on hers. Is everything okay? You don’t sound the same.”

I snort and realize my face is wet. I haven’t cried since waking up in casts, rigged up in that hospital bed. I shake my head as if she can see me.

“I’m having a really fucked-up day,” I say.

“Oh, can I help? Mayven’s pretty wasted, but I’m a good listener.”

I don’t want to hang up and be alone. It hits me. All I want is to feel human again. I want to be treated like a man. Not some freak.

“How have you been?” I go for a casual conversation because it’s what I need.

“I’m great. I was hoping to get to talk to you. I’m going on my first date because of you.”

“Because of me?”

“Yeah, your voice has been playing in my head. When I walk into a room now, I hold my head high and own my shit. I was asked out on a date. He’s a nice guy,” she replies.

I lean back in my seat and slump down. I have no right to be jealous, but I rub at the ball of jealousy that burns my chest.

“How old are you, Shawna?”

“I’m three years younger than Mayven. I’m twenty,” she whispers shyly.

“And this is your first date?”

“Yeah, I don’t go out much. I have school and assignments. Mayven’s going to help me pick something to wear. Can I ask you something?”

“Yeah, go ahead.”

“Are you and Skittles the same age?”

“Yeah, I’m older by a few months. I was born in July.”

“Oh,” she says sadly.

I smile. Skittles will kick my ass for this, but I know nothing will ever come from it. I just need that old feeling back.

“Shawna?”

“Yes, Kelex?”

“Joshua. Call me Josh or Joshua. And sweetheart, if we ever meet, run… I’m an asshole. You can do better than me, but I promise if I get the chance. I’m going to ruin you for life.”
