He smiles, but still appears unsure.
“Give me my ring,” I say softly. “I want it.”
He cracks open the box. It’s ginormous, which comes as no surprise. Junior loves to spoil me and it’s probably important to him that his wife have the biggest ring. He is an alpha male after all.
Good thing I like ginormous diamond rings. I slide the emerald cut beauty on my wedding finger and beam.
“So that’s a yes? You want the full proposal first?”
“It’s a yes. As far as I’m concerned, you proposed to me that day in the car. But be my guest. I want the full deal.”
Junior drops to one knee and holds up the jewelry box. “Desiree.”
I’m surprised to hear the thickness in his voice.
“I want to be your man. I want you in my home. In my bed. In my life. Forever. I want to be the guy who makes you scream. Who protects you. Treats you like a princess. I want to be your husband, Desiree. Will you marry me?”
Tears fill my eyes and I cover my mouth to hold in the sob. “Yes,” I nod, reaching for his hands to pull him up, to get closer. To touch him.
“Whenever you want to get married, I’m in. No pressure, though. I’m happy just to have you wear my ring.”
“Tomorrow,” I say.
“What?”
“Let’s go tomorrow. We can elope.” I gasp. “I know—let’s go to Vegas! I heard there’s this really cool casino there….”
“You wanna get married tomorrow in Vegas?” Junior’s grin splits his face. “Baby, that’s so easy. You sure? You don’t want a big fancy wedding? I mean, fuck you can have both. Whatever you want, it’s yours.”
I pull him down to the bed with me. It’s hard to make room, with my big belly, but we lie, nose to nose, his hand on my hip. “I just want you, Junior,” I tell him.
He brushes his thumb across my cheek. “You already have me, angel. Forever.”
