There’s a buzzing in my ears as I try to process what I just heard. Ten. Million. Dollars. He didn’t lose the money. Instead, he got more.

Holy shit!

“Mr. Raines. Legend. I’ve been doing this job for over thirty years. I’ve never seen someone so adamant about giving up five million dollars. The love you have for your wife, and your wife for you, is apparent and beyond question. All I need from you is your signature and bank account numbers. Then the ten million dollars will be in your account within forty-eight hours.”

“What?” Legend asks, stunned.

Mr. Mullins grins. “I was instructed not to tell you about this clause in the will. However, you’ve proven to me that your wife is, in fact, the love of your life.”

“She is,” Legend croaks.

“I can see that.”

“Mrs. Raines, I’m glad to see you are home and feeling better.”

“T-Thank you.” I turn to Legend, and he’s obviously in shock. “Babe?”

He shakes out of his stupor. “What do you need? Thirsty? Finally hungry?” he asks. He’s ready to push aside whatever it is he’s feeling right now to tend to me.

“I need you to go get this man a check with our banking information on it.” He stares at me for several long heartbeats before he bursts out laughing.

“I love you.”

“I love you too. Now go.” I shoo him away, and Mr. Mullins laughs.

Legend does as I ask and comes back with a check with Void written on it in black marker. He hands it over and takes his seat next to me. “That’s it? That’s all you need?”

“There’s some paperwork involved, but you and your wife can come to my office to take care of that when she’s feeling up to the trip. I have a feeling I can trust you to come and sign.”

“You can.” Legend nods. “I don’t know what to do with ten million dollars.”

“I’d be happy to advise you. We have a financial planning team at the firm that could assist you as well.”

“Thank you. We’ll talk it over and let you know when we come in to sign. Give us a few days?” Legend asks.

“Certainly. Again, Mrs. Raines, I’m glad to see you doing better. I’ll see you soon.” He stands and smiles at us. “I’ll see myself out.”

Neither one of us speaks until we hear the front door open and close.

“Did that just happen?” I ask Legend.

“Yeah, baby, it did.”

I reach over and wrap my arms around him. “I’m so glad you didn’t lose out on your inheritance because of me. That’s how this all started.”

“It might have been what got us to spend more time together, but that money has nothing to do with the way I feel about you. We could give it all away, and I wouldn’t have a single fuck to give as long as you’re healthy and happy.”

“So happy.” I kiss him softly. My heart is so full, I feel as though it could burst.

“You know what this means, right?” I ask him.

“That you can quit your job and raise our babies?”

“I—that’s not what I was going to say.”

“It’s something to think about. Of course, if you want to continue to work, I understand. It’s your choice to make.”

I nod. “No, I was thinking you need to call the realtor. That land, it’s still for sale. That’s the dream, right? To build a new state-of-the-art facility. To have guest artists come in, and maybe even add a few new full-time artists to give you all a break.”

“The plan is loving you forever.”

“Come on.” I laugh. “Call them.”

He nods and reaches for his phone that’s sitting on the coffee table. Ten minutes later, he’s made an offer that the agent is emailing over for a signature.

“The guys are going to flip.”

“Everything worked out like it was supposed to.”

“Yeah, it did.” He pecks my lips with a kiss. “I can’t believe I was actually asking myself: is this love?” He shakes his head. “I knew better. I knew as soon as you offered to marry me, my life was about to change.”

“Regrets?”

“None. You?”

“Nope. I know this is love.”

EPILOGUE

Monroe

It’s been two months since I was released from the hospital. My husband still hovers, but I know he means well, so I don’t fuss about it too much. I can’t hide my smile as I park outside of the shop and make my way inside Everlasting Ink. I have a surprise for my husband that I know he’s going to love.

“Hey, Drake,” I greet as I walk toward the reception desk.

“Monroe, you look great. How are you feeling?”

“Never better.” My smile is wide, and I’m sure it looks suspicious, but I can’t help it. I’m so excited.

He nods. “Want me to get Legend for you? He’s got a one o’clock, but I know he’s going to want to see you.”
