Our four-year-old, Jessica, is with her Aunt Kelly and Uncle Saul, Kelly’s husband. Our newest is sleeping at home, Matt watching over our one-and-a-half-year-old son. Matthew is named after his uncle, and I love when Uncle Matt volunteers to help out.
I expect little Matt is asleep now, but Uncle Matt will have plenty to do with Benny and Lucifer keeping him busy…probably by sleeping on the couch. Lucifer is slow these days, and extremely tired, but the vet says he’s surprisingly healthy. They called him a medical marvel.
My heart whelms as Jamie applies Matt’s name next to all our other children. It’s the same tattoo on both shoulders, but with different names, and isn’t that a wonderful thing?
I’m almost crying, just thinking about the beautiful fact of this.
The children, the family, the life we always wanted.
“Mommy,” Lila says. “Will you be teaching me when school starts?”
“I’ll have to check, honey, but I might be.”
She claps her hands together. “I’d really, really love that.”
I smile. “So would I.”
