I took a big gulp of my drink.
I’d suspected a while back she’d been in heat, or about to be. But since she hadn’t been ours that long, I wasn’t sure. There’d been no discharge or anything, just a change in her behavior. Rather than sleeping downstairs, she’d slept next to our bed a few nights, and she’d had less patience for Oppy and Percy climbing all over her.
“I feel like an idiot for not considering this earlier,” Sebastian said.
Hell, that made two of us. “Me too. Not much we can do about that now, though.” I cracked a grin, ’cause this was becoming funny. “I thought we were safe from unexpected pregnancies, darlin’.”
He let out a laugh and scrubbed his hands down his face.
I glanced over at my smirking brother. “Thanks for lookin’ out. We’ll take that exam.”
He nodded. “You got it. We can head in after breakfast.”
“It’s a plan.”
He wished us a good night and returned inside.
Sebastian and I just stared at each other before we chuckled and shook our heads.
“That’s an interestin’ way to start our life together,” I said. “I guess we have to cut our vacation short. Maybe do Grand Canyon and the fishin’ trip, then head straight home.”
“Yeah… Christ.” He pinched his lips together, mirth flowing freely in his eyes. “We have to get Mischa fixed.”
“Poor guy. But yeah. Yeah, we do. Damn.” I kinda hoped we could keep a pup. Then again, we had five dogs and one cat now. We were turning into the pet version of David and Melissa. “Those pups are gonna be fucking beautiful, though.” I mean, honestly. A stunning Husky and Nala’s German shepherd and Lab mix. “I can give Sam a call. And you can ask your pops.”
Because those dogs would grow up as perfect hunting companions.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to find homes for them,” Sebastian agreed. “You know who you should call? Your dad.”
He was right. Dad had mentioned wanting a dog since Rosie no longer occupied their porch.
I grinned. Talk about a strange turn of events.
“To new adventures, future hubby.” I held up my glass.
He smiled and clinked his glass to mine. “To us, baby.”
