“I DO,” I shouted, glaring at the old man before giving my almost-wife an eager smile. She blinked at me, looking a little startled. I adjusted my smile, making it more loving and reassuring and less I-can’t-wait-to-jump-your-bones.

“Then I have no choice but to declare you man and wife,” he said with a sad shake of his head. “You may kiss the bride,” he added, suddenly knocking me back out of the way. I watched in horror as Trace and Vice took turns kissing the hell out of my wife. Jaken took a visible step back and held up his hands, but I barely noticed. Claire looked too surprised to do a damned thing until Vice tried to kiss her again, grabbing for her narrow waist. That time, she smacked him.

“Goddammit, Preacher,” I bellowed, jumping to my feet. I was about to beat the hell out of him, as well as my so-called ‘friends’, when I felt two little hands press into my chest. I stared down at my wife.

My wife.

She was mine.

Nothing like a stupid kiss or two should be allowed to ruin this moment. It was by far the greatest moment of my life.

“Hunter.”

“Claire,” I said warmly as I lowered my head to take a long, slow, drugging kiss from her lips. “You are mine now,” I rasped out when I lifted my head.

“Yes. And you are mine,” she added primly before giving me a wink.

“Yes, I am,” I growled. “Do I really have to wait all night to get you alone?”

“I will see what I can do,” she whispered into my ear. I bent down to hear her, and she stood on her tiptoes. “But not until after the cake and our first dance.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, woman,” I growled.

“I’m not. I have a shorter dress to wear to the afterparty.”

“Afterparty?” I asked. “What the hell are you talking about, woman? The afterparty is in my pants.”

She just laughed and tugged my hand to get my ass moving down the aisle.

“Come on, husband,” she said with a glance over her shoulder. “Let’s dance.”

Chapter Forty-Four

Jaken

I stood against the wall, my eyes constantly scanning the room. I had both the main exit and the staff exit to the kitchens in my view. I was far from the windows. I was partially hidden by a large potted plant.

I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt like this. Cain and a lot of the guys who had been to war often had a similar stance. It was one of the reasons we got along so well.

But none of them knew the real reason I was like that.

I inhaled sharply as the concierge entered the room. She was petite—tiny, really—but she commanded my attention whenever she came into the room. Her long, dark hair and piercing blue eyes made her look like a little doll made out of porcelain. But the confident way she held herself and the insanely sexy way she walked made her seem anything but fragile.

A real firecracker, as my gran would have said.

The girl was running the wedding, dealing with the room full of bikers without a hitch. I felt my cock growing heavier in my pants. Hell, my balls had been full since the moment I saw her. It was a crass thing to think or say, but it was true. A man couldn’t lie to himself about that sort of reaction to a female.

Or a male, if that was what floated your boat.

I liked girls, but no one had captured my attention in years. And no one had ever captured it like this girl had. Sadly, I knew I didn’t have a chance in hell with her.

A pretty little thing like her would never even look twice at a disreputable sot like me. I could almost hear my ma’s voice echoing down the years, telling me I was no good. That I should fight for the cause like my father and brothers. That every good Irish boy chose a side.

I shook off the cascade of memories. I’d left all that behind when I left Ireland. I was here now. No one knew the things I’d done to try and please my family. No one knew the depth of my shame.

Now I was just a guy who worked in a biker bar, rode fast, and knew about motors. I was practically in the Untouchables, though I hadn’t gone through the formal process. I was almost afraid to put my name down on anything. Mason paid me under the table and had for years. He was one of the few people who had an inkling about my history.

But a girl like that?

She would run screaming if she knew a thing about me.

I watched as she motored across the room and out through one of the open doors to the patio and garden outside. It was hung with string lights and looked very pretty from here. Of course, I barely noticed that sort of thing with my constant vigilance. Not until now.
