What were they talking about?

That didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was getting inside, so they didn’t give all the neighbors a show. And oh, how he wanted to do things with Nolan that were worthy of getting arrested.

Nolan slowly ended the kiss with a series of smaller kisses and one final sweet one on the tip of his nose. “I might be occasionally scared of what you can do, but I’ll never be afraid of who you are.”

Sky’s smile felt lopsided on his face, but he didn’t care. “You write romance, don’t you?”

“It’s one of my many genres, yes.”

“No wonder you’re such a sweet talker.” His wonderful warm haze was broken when Nolan’s shirt shifted and he could see the fresh bite mark on his neck. It was red and angry and made Sky want to rip Christoph’s soul from his body all over again. He lifted his fingers and gently touched the slightly puffy skin. “Winter says your wound will heal naturally in a week. You won’t have any problems with the vampires going forward.” A nervous laugh slipped out. “He even said that they are quietly spreading that vampires should steer clear of you if they want to go on existing.”

Nolan snorted. “I’m sure rumors are going to spread even faster about how a witch absolutely decimated the Sandor clan leader.”

“And you’re okay with me? With that?”

Yes, yes, he was asking that question while he was still comfortably snuggled in Nolan’s arms in the middle of his driveway. Sue him! He could be needy and insecure, just like the rest of the world!

“As long as you’re okay with me looking like a vampire’s chew toy for a while.” Nolan’s smile slipped a bit. Sky tightened his arms around Nolan’s neck, threatening to choke him.

“You’re not a chew toy!”

Nolan chuckled and hugged him.

When Sky released Nolan and took a reluctant step back, the man’s expression had turned serious.

“I want you to know that you don’t have to keep saving me. This whole mess was unusual for me, and I’m not even talking about the magic.” He shoved his hands into his pockets and rocked on his heels. “It’s more normal for me to take care of things on my own. Avoid trouble.”

“This isn’t your fault. You were dropped in a foreign world without any warning or prior knowledge,” Sky argued.

“So…if I have some questions about witches or vampires or anything like that, you’d be willing to help?”

Sky paused an extra second to keep in the high-pitched squeal that was trying so damn hard to escape. This was excellent. Questions meant he was curious about Sky’s world, that he might want to stay in his life. Yes, this was all very good.

“Sure. I’d be happy to help you. Anything you want to know. At least, I’ll answer any questions I can. Shifters and vampires can be really secretive.” Sky took a deep breath and plunged ahead. “Plus, you know you still owe me that date for helping with your brother.”

The sexy man in front of him frowned, his head shaking slightly. “I don’t know.”

A whimper escaped Sky, his bottom lip jutting out.

“I think your math is off,” Nolan continued. “I’m pretty sure I owe you two dates now.” Nolan smirked and held up two fingers. “One for saving my brother and the other for saving me. And I am more than happy to pay up.”

Sky thrust both of his fists into the air and danced in a circle in his driveway.

Yes, neighbors, get your phones out and record this! The weird little gay man is dancing in his driveway at night!

Who cares? He’d gotten two—count ’em, two—dates with the hottest man on the block. Fuck it, the hottest man in the city!

Sky threw himself at Nolan, who was laughing at his antics. Such a wonderful sound after everything he’d gone through recently.

“These are going to be the best two dates of your life. And just for you, I’m willing to offer an extension of unlimited future dates if you find that you enjoy going out with me.”

Nolan pressed a kiss to Sky’s forehead. “Okay. Sounds like a great offer. I have one request, if you don’t mind.”

“Sure.”

“Can the first date be…kind of quiet?”
