He turns his head so abruptly that I almost laugh out loud. “Reid? You’re banging Reid Hunt? He’s your boss.”
She nods. “He’s my boss and the best lover I’ve ever had.”
He focuses his attention back on Evangeline. “How serious is this thing between you two?”
“She’s going to marry me.”
Evie marches toward me, shoving Magnus aside with a push of her hand on his bicep. “What?”
As soon as she’s in front of me, I’m cupping her face in my hands. I tilt it up so I can kiss her softly. “I’m going to ask you to marry me before the year ends, Evie. I want to do it the day we move into our home in Queens.”
“Our home?” Tears fill her beautiful blue eyes. “We’re going to live in Queens?”
“After we hire a contractor to work some magic, I’d love to live in that house with you. If you can picture living in Queens with me.”
“I can picture it.” She kisses my chin. “It’s what I’ve wanted since I saw the house for the first time.”
Magnus interrupts us by clearing his throat. “Does this mean I’m never going to get a chance to prove to you what a good fuck I am?”
We both laugh, but Evie is the one who responds to him. “We didn’t sleep together. We have never slept together. You pissed me off on the subway that morning. I lost it when I heard you bragging about Julie. No woman wants to give herself to a man who tells the world what they do behind closed doors.”
“You’re serious?” Magnus asks her. “You made it all up.”
“For Julie.” She lets out a heavy exhale. “I guess I wanted to embarrass you because I felt you weren’t respecting her.”
“My record is still intact,” he says, ignoring everything she just said to him. “I’m still a great fuck.”
“That’s what you got out of this?” she questions him, her hands dropping to her hips. “There’s a lesson to be learned here, Mr. Brewster.”
“Right.” He nods curtly as his gaze drops to her tits. “The lesson is I’m still one of the best lays in this town.”
“No,” she says, shaking her head as he wanders off. “That is not the lesson.”
“Where were we?” I ask, reaching for her hand. “I was telling you about our little yellow house, moving to Queens, and getting married in the backyard one day.”
“In our backyard?”
“Yes.” I tug her closer to me. “It’ll take a few months to get the house in tip-top shape, so move into my apartment with me now, Evangeline. Live with me, work with me, and let me love you every single fucking minute of every day.”
“I’ll move in on one condition,” she whispers. “Or maybe two, or three, or it could be twenty conditions.”
I bark out a laugh. “Name them all.”
“Stop sending me on scavenger hunts, Mr. Hunt.” She grins with a spark in her eyes. “If you’d let me use a delivery service for most of those things, I’d have more time to take care of your needs in the office.”
I trace a line of kisses up the side of her neck. “What needs?”
“Blow jobs in the office for one.”
“Fuck this wedding. Let’s go to work now.”
That earns me a playful slap on the shoulder, followed by a deep kiss on my mouth. When we part, Evie steps back to stare at me. “They’re going to cut the cake soon. Then it’s the first dance, and then…”
“Then I’ll take you home,” I interrupt her. “I’ll get you out of this dress, rip your panties off, and spend the rest of the night banging you until you have so many Os you lose track.”
“Yes to all of that.” She circles her finger in front of my face. “But let’s say we’ll fuck until I come all over your cock.”
I harden immediately, desperate to touch as much of her as I can as quickly as I can. “Evie,” I rasp. “Please.”
“Evie!” another voice calls out. It’s feminine and very familiar. “I need my maid of honor.”
“Duty calls.” She inches her hand down my shirt until it grazes my belt. “Lottie needs me.”
“She’ll never need you as much as I do,” I bite out while taking a ragged breath. “I’ll need you forever. I’ll need you endlessly until the day I die.”
“We’re going to have such an amazing life, Reid.” She looks deep into my eyes. “I’ll meet you on the dance floor soon.”
“Soon,” I say, wishing that meant I’d have my hands on her again less than a minute from now. “I’ll meet you there soon.”
EPILOGUE
Evie
Four Months Later
I smile as Reid carries me into our home. I feel like a bride, although I’m not. At least not yet. We’ve talked about marriage a few times since I moved into his apartment, but the renovations on this house have monopolized most of our discussions.
