I know I’ve manipulated her with my quill. First, I injected her with a calming serum, but I switched to an aphrodisiac so she would understand how good we will be together.

She understands now. I can see it in her eyes. She’s trembling because it’s shocking to her, but she gets it. “Papi…” Her voice is soft and delicate this time.

“Mine, Clara.”

She slowly nods and shifts her gaze to Dankin. “Can you really figure out why I’ve been sick?”

“Yes, Little one. I’m confident I can.” Dankin pulls a strap over her hips, securing her further. When she whimpers and pulls her knees up, he gently guides one of her legs to the corner of the table and adds an ankle strap before doing the same to the other.

I draw in a slow, deep breath, inhaling my girl’s essence as her arousal grows more profound by the moment. She would never admit it out loud, and I can tell she is embarrassed, but she is very turned on by the restraints.

It’s not unusual for females. I’ve learned every detail about what to expect from my mate. As far as our scientists can discern, there are some human females who are not submissive at all. Fate does not align them with our males.

I also know that a great majority of human females do not consider themselves submissive even though they have dormant tendencies that come out when Fate puts them in our path.

This is what’s happening to Clara. I don’t know what she did for work on Earth. I haven’t had a chance to ask her, but I bet she’s a powerful female who doesn’t submit to anyone. Until now. Until me.

It’s confusing her. It will take time for her to fully grasp our bond and what it means for the rest of her very long life.

I shift my gaze to Dankin as he uses a special instrument to look in her ears, gently angling her head back and forth. For the first time, fear consumes me. What if something is terribly wrong with my Little girl, and he can’t fix her?

I flinch as that thought makes my body shake. Dankin recognizes my sudden panic and looks my direction. He doesn’t say anything, but I can see him trying to reassure me with his gaze. He doesn’t want to panic Clara, and he needs me to be strong for her, too.

Dankin returns his attention to Clara, tipping her head back to look into her eyes. He holds her eyelids open wide and examines them thoroughly.

I’m gripping Clara’s thigh, trying not to hold her too tight. It’s hard. I want to pick her up and cradle her in my arms. I want to feed her a bottle and then pop a pacifier in her mouth so she can rest for a while.

If I had met her under normal circumstances, we would still be on Earth in my apartment above the club. I would be helping her understand what to expect from her new life. I would have fed her and diapered her by now. I would have bathed her, too. She hasn’t been bathed in our water yet.

We don’t normally bring our females up to the mothership in a transport pod before caring for them for a while on Earth first. But my Little girl was passed out when I found her. Dankin agreed with me that it would be prudent to bring her immediately to the mothership. Whatever is ailing her, he will figure it out here where he has equipment.

“Can you open your mouth wide for me, Little one,” Dankin encourages.

Clara does as she’s told while I stroke her thigh, trying to keep her calm. If I have to, I will prick her skin every few minutes, but she seems calm enough for the moment. Possibly even eager. She wants to know what’s wrong with her as badly as I do, but she’s also scared to learn the truth, and I agree on that issue, too.

I won’t speak my fears out loud, nor will I let Clara verbalize her concerns. We won’t consider any other alternative except an eventual clean bill of health. No other option is acceptable. Fate would not put this precious Little girl in my path and then take her away from me.

Eleadians mate for life. We do not have any concept of losing our mate. It’s not optional. We don’t simply turn around and find another. It’s unheard of.

Dankin shifts his attention to Clara’s nose. He tips her head back and uses his tool to look up in her nostrils. He takes longer than I would expect. “Have you had any sinus issues, Clara?”

“Not really.”

He presses against her forehead. “What about headaches?”

“I’ve had a dull headache for a few months.”

Dankin’s brows are furrowed as he looks in her eyes again. “Has your vision been affected?”
