“The fuck are you doing?” I screech as Roman drives the truck right through the house until he’s dead center of the massive foyer. No one responds as they pile out of the car, almost as though they can read Roman’s mind perfectly.
“What the hell is going on?” I demand, fumbling around like a fucking idiot, watching as they unload weapons and storm around the foyer, setting up the perfect ambush. The wolves jump out and race toward the front foyer windows, watching and waiting for a threat, already on guard despite not receiving a single order.
“Uhhhhh hello?” I say, waving my hands around and demanding attention. “Mind clueing me in on the plan here? What am I supposed to be doing apart from not getting killed?”
Roman jumps down from the high balcony of the second level that overlooks the foyer and glances back at his brothers, his brows furrowed with indecision. He shrugs his shoulders. “I guess … she could just … hide,” he suggests, knowing my limits all too well.
Marcus watches me for a moment, narrowing his eyes, deep in thought. “Nah,” he says, shaking his head. “She’ll end up doing something to get caught. Give her a knife. She has good instincts when it comes to stabbing people.”
My eyes bug out of my head. “A knife? No way. I don’t plan on getting close enough to any of your father’s guards to have to use a knife. Give me a gun.”
Roman scoffs. “I’ll pass on that one,” he mutters. “I’ve copped enough bullets over the past few weeks without having to worry about an accidental one from you. Besides, you won’t be going after the guards. They’re too experienced. You’ll be overpowered in seconds. You’re going after Ariana.”
I suck in a breath. “You want me to kill Ariana?”
Levi shrugs. “I figured you’d just fuck her up like Lucas did to you, but if you want to kill her, then that’s your decision. Watch those nails though,” he offers. “Those sharp as fuck nails are a fucking bitch.”
“Good to know,” I murmur, trying to act as though I’m not completely horrified about all of this. “How is this supposed to go down anyway?”
Dill and Doe both stand with raised hackles, their low growls rumbling with menace. “I guess you’re about to find out,” Roman says, moving around the back of the truck and grabbing a few things. He takes hold of me and pulls me in until my body is covered by the open truck door. He straps a knife to both of my thighs, pressing one into my hand, and for good luck, he shoves a gun into the back of my jeans. “Don’t fucking shoot me,” he warns as I distantly notice that the knife in my hand is the same one that Marcus had gifted me the night he chained me to the fucking ceiling and fucked me until I couldn’t breathe. “There are only so many bullets I’m willing to take for you before it’s gonna start pissing me off.”
I swallow hard and nod. The guy definitely has a point.
We hear the sound of Giovanni’s convoy making its way down the massive driveway and the nerves bubble through my system. Roman jumps back into the truck and drives it right out of the foyer to hide it out of the way, and as the boys position themselves behind the exquisite pillars surrounding the wide room, it looks just as Giovanni had left it.
Not a noise fills the foyer as Roman returns and points out the best space for me to stand before taking the pillar across the room, putting equal distance between him and his brothers. The wolves flock to my sides, ready to protect me if needed.
Leaning back just a step, I get the perfect view of the mansion’s grand entrance and find Giovanni’s guards making their way toward the door. There are only half as many guards as what they had this morning when they blindsided us with those damn tasers, and a part of me is grateful for fewer casualties. “What do you see?” Levi questions, his tone lowered, not wanting to give us away.
“Maybe fifteen or so guards,” I tell them. “They’re halfway up the stairs. They have those fucking tasers on their hips, and guns on the other. I can’t see any other weapons, though I’m sure they’re there. They look relaxed, as if they don’t suspect anything.”
“My father?” Roman asks.
“Only getting out of his car now,” I say, pulling in closer to the wall so that the guards don’t see my face hovering by the side window. “Ariana is just getting out now too. She looks pissed, as though they’ve just had a fight or something.”
“Shit,” Levi mutters, irritated as he switches out his gun for a knife.
“What’s wrong?”
