It’s freeing listening to the music and letting your body express itself. I close my eyes and sway my ass to the rhythm. After a few songs, I open my lids and see that Callie has totally hit it off with the surfer-looking dude. They’re laughing and having a good time, so I decide to take a break and hit the ladies’ room.
I push through the crowd, making my way toward the neon restroom sign at the back of the saloon.
A dim hallway greets me, and I venture down, searching for the bathrooms at the end. I pass by one woman, standing in the hallway on her phone. The light leads the way as I walk further.
A moan stops me in my tracks.
Another moan, more aggressive this time, has me peeking into a lighted alcove.
All I can see is a woman on her knees, bobbing her head in front of what is clearly a man’s groin.
Oh, my god. It takes a minute to register that no one is dying or in need of my help. Fairly certain Blondie is a pro at this, considering the way she’s hoovering someone’s penis down her throat.
I blush, trying to back away from the intimate moment as quickly as possible, but my heel gets stuck in a vent. Like I said, everything is truly bigger in Texas. Including this enormous grate in the floor.
The woman groans, and I wiggle my foot, but it’s not helping. If I could only… uh oh.
My shoe slides off at a rapid pace and I lose my balance. I’m going down and there’s not a damn thing in the world that can stop me now.
I yelp as my butt hits the concrete floor hard—dress flies up and everything.
For the first time, I get a look at the blowjob recipient and my mouth drops open.
It’s him. My new roommate.
A piercing blue gaze meets mine as I push my dress down over my panties and scramble to stand so I can get out of this ridiculously embarrassing situation.
Tobias, with wide eyes, mind you, pulls the woman off his… well, ya know… and shoves himself back into his jeans.
The woman rises to her feet. “What the?”
But he’s not paying attention to her pout, instead he’s reaching out a large hand to help me up.
“Are you ok?” he asks when I’m standing. “You took a nasty spill.” He steadies me by placing both hands on my hips.
“I’m fine.” I avoid looking at him. “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
With a smile that could cure cancer, Tobias bends down to free my black heel. “Here, allow me.” He ghosts his fingers along my calf, and instinctively, I lift my foot as he slides my shoe on like I’m some modern-day Cinderella.
The blonde huffs and crosses her arms over her bountiful chest. “Are you kidding me?”
Tobias caresses my ankle before he rises to his full height, which is about a foot taller than me. “Alyssa, we’re all good here.”
“My name is Melissa.” She isn’t stomping her foot, but I’m waiting for her to start at any moment, and it makes me feel a million times worse that I’ve interrupted their private moment.
Tobias ignores her and asks me, “What’s your name?”
My mouth figuratively hangs open at this man who could so crudely turn away the woman who was only moments ago sucking on his most private body part. “Look, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt… whatever.” I hustle to the restroom, leaving them to finish what they were doing or walk away.
Either way, I’m out of there.
Chapter 2
Tobias

Well, this is awkward. Probably shouldn’t have had those three bourbons before my plane took off. Or the three on the plane. In my defense, if people were meant to fly, we’d have wings. We don’t. And just because someone stuck them on an aerodynamic tube doesn’t mean I trust it. So, I needed a little liquid courage to get on board the damn death trap. Throw in some turbulence and more liquid courage and the next thing you know, you’ve got your dick in someone’s mouth when you encounter the girl of your dreams.
I spin on my heel, teetering, rubbing at the back of my neck. “Alyssa, I’m—” Before I can get the word sorry out, she slaps me across my cheek.
“It’s Melissa.” She storms off, and I don’t go after her.
I guess I deserved that, but I couldn’t help myself when I saw the beautiful brunette with mesmerizing gray eyes staring at me. It’s like my mind misfired at the sight of her and nothing else in the world mattered except helping her to her feet. The universe put her in my path and then took her away. She ran into the bathroom before I could even catch her name.
So, that’s where I am right now. Waiting outside the women’s restroom in this honkey-tonk bar that barely has enough lighting to see properly. But I won’t ever forget those gray eyes.
