I can tell Angie’s been drinking. Her cheeks are red. “Owen said you had the restraint of a saint and didn’t kick her boyfriend’s ass.”

I scoff. “Boyfriend? Hardly. Just some guy she’s passing time with.”

Aviva grins. “Ooh, you’ve got it bad.”

“So bad,” Jaylin agrees. “I was convinced I was going to have to figure out if I was going to go the route of insanity or crime of passion for my defense of you.”

Amelia snorts at that. “Either would fit.”

They all agree as I shift my gaze between them. “You guys are a pain.”

They laugh at that, and Jaylin leans in. “Is she here?”

“Not yet,” I say, doing a scan of the room, and I hate how anxious I feel. I worry she’ll show up with him. And then what? Am I just supposed to stand by while she walks around the party with him, acting the happy couple, when I know she wants me? No. I need her to drop him. Now.

“There he is,” Angie says, and we all follow the direction of her gaze to see the dweeb walking around, schmoozing the athletes. “I don’t see her.”

Relief fills me as his eyes move toward where I’m leaning. I stand then, tucking my hand into my pocket and pushing my hips forward, because even if my dick isn’t hard, I know it’s bigger than his. I tip my chin up at him, and irritation takes over his face.

“Dart, you are just evil,” Jaylin says when Dickhead pulls his gaze from me. I’m smirky because I love that he knows she’s mine.

“Why did you move your hips like that?” Angie asks and then hiccups. I set her with a very devilish grin, and she shakes her head. “Never mind. I don’t want to know.”

The girls snicker as I scan the crowd once more. My friends are all playing cornhole. And since I was late, I missed out on being Owen’s partner, which is why I’m hanging out in the lionesses’ den over here. I could go over where the guys are, but I don’t want to miss when Tennessee shows up. I almost pull out my phone, almost text or call her, but I’m still trying to be patient. I’m trying to wait for her. Because that’s what I’ve been doing since the start, and honestly, I don’t know how much longer I can wait. And if I do have to wait much longer to kiss those lips, I may go insane. I just need her to blow off that dud.

“When is she going to blow him off?” I find myself asking, and then four pairs of eyes fall on me. “Like, we know she will, right?”

No one says anything for a long moment, until Jaylin asks, “What if she doesn’t?”

My heart goes cold in my chest. “Then I’m gonna be a fucking mess, and all of you better be ready to feed me.”

Amelia nods. “I’ll make you lasagna.”

“I’ll buy you some ice cream,” Jaylin promises.

“I can make you a sub,” Aviva tells me, but Angie just holds my gaze.

“If y’all are as explosive as you say you are, we won’t have to worry about that,” Angie says softly with another small hiccup, and I know she’s right. I just need to see Tennessee. I need to know what she is thinking. I need to touch her.

I need her.

I sigh deeply as I take another pull of my beer, and thankfully, I don’t have to wait long. I spot her coming up the stairs because of the orange ribbon in her hair. She holds the rail as she climbs the stairs, and when she comes into full view, everything stops. She’s wearing an orange silk skirt that’s gathered at the top of one thigh but covers her other leg completely and a cropped white lace top that molds to those breasts and has my mouth watering. She has on her UT cowboy boots, a jean jacket hanging from her fingers. Her makeup gives her a cat-eye look with her long lashes, and her lips are glossed as she purses them, her eyes scanning the crowd.

“That’s her.” I hear Angie, I think. I’m not sure with how loud the drum of my heart is beating in my ears.

“Goodness me,” Aviva says.

“Dart, you are in so much trouble,” Jaylin tells me, and I already know that.

“So, she must be a Vols fan,” Amelia adds, and everyone but me laughs at that.

I lean back, unbuttoning my jacket so I can breathe as I drink her in. “Goddamn, she’s gorgeous.”

Her gaze meets mine, and that small curve of her lips has me tight as fuck. Everywhere.

“I feel like there should be a song playing for her. Maybe ‘Unholy,’” Angie adds, shaking her head. “Because there is nothing holy about the way you two are staring at each other.”
