“Did you just call me sexy?” It falls out before I think to hold it back. Maybe I should back off on the drinks.

“Fuck yeah, you are. I don’t blame Crash for getting all fucked up about you. And you’re smart, even if you’re naive as fuck. But if you’re looking for someone to teach you a few things…” That smooth smile suddenly seems more predatory. The Devil holding out his seductive hand to lure me into who knows what.

And I’m soaking it up like a sponge. He looks like sin and his words make me feel special. Not just that he thinks I’m sexy, but how his disgust with my situation seems so honest. He barely knows me and it feels like he’s on my side. I’m not used to that.

I’ve still got his red jacket on, so while my shoulders are covered, his powerful ones are exposed. He’s got a black t-shirt with the sleeves torn off, clinging to him like shrink wrap and exposing every muscular bulge underneath. Strong, tattooed arms are crossed in front of him on the table as he leans back and watches me closely, waiting for my reaction.

I shift in my seat, my core strangely warm. There’s a flutter in my stomach, and my mind feels like it’s swimming a little. I can blame the alcohol all I want, but that’s only part of it. Crash made it obvious that he’s just here to make Dad mad, but Devil’s just here for me. He’s friendly because he wants to be.

Maybe too friendly.

At least if you asked Dad, but he’s not here right now, is he?

All of a sudden, my lips feel dry, and I wet them nervously. Devil’s eyes follow my tongue very closely, and that doesn’t make my insides any cooler. Or my face, which feels like it’s burning up.

“I… I don’t think that would be appropriate.”

“Is that what you think? Or your father? Because if you need a Daddy to give you permission, I’d be more than happy to.” His eyes twinkle with mischief as he wraps his hands around mine and pulls me closer, so we’re face to face. The little table between us will never realize what a valiant job it’s doing protecting my chastity right now.

His hands are so warm, their callused skin rough against mine. I should pull back, but I don’t. I should tell him to back off, but I don’t do that either. It’s so rare that anyone notices me for me, or stands up for me, and here he is, without hardly even knowing me. He freaking punched Dad! For me! The leathery scent of his jacket is almost as intoxicating as the alcohol.

He hits me with the full force of his attention, and my poor innocent heart isn’t ready for it. “I’m not going to fucking force anything, Summer. That’s not how I roll, but you seem like you could do with a little wild. You want to hug it out or fuck it out? I’m happy to serve. Let’s just give you one night away from the hell you call a family.” I try to protest, but he puts a finger on my lips. “Shh. I’m the fucking Devil. Trust me, I know what hell is. Let me tempt you.”

I close my eyes, my brain not working fast enough to keep up with the rest of me. Whoa.

“Be right back. Hang tight.” He presses a kiss to my fingers and puts my hands down.

He’s only gone for a minute before he slides a tall glass of ice water in front of me.

“I thought we were here to drink.”

“Yeah, but I’d rather not hold your hair while you puke up your guts in the alley. I mean, I will if I have to, but shit, just drink the water. Your head’ll thank me in the morning.” He pushes the glass a little closer and winks. “I can’t teach you shit if you’re too drunk to remember my lessons.”

I’m starting to think bikers are a little like our guard dogs. Big and scary on the outside, but cuddly on the inside. Then I see the smoldering, predatory hunger in Devil’s emerald eyes as I drink the water, and reconsider. Cuddly is not the right word, but I don’t think I’d regret whatever he’s got in mind. He’d make sure of that.

I drink my water faster.

“It’s getting a little loud in here,” I say. Is that too subtle of a hint? I’m not even totally sure what I’m hinting at, but it’s definitely not something we can do here. Can we? No.

“Come on.” He holds out his hand and I let him pull me from my chair. “I’ve got a place. It’s not much, but it’s private, comfortable, and there’s no fucking way anyone’s finding you there.”
