“Do you like to put jigsaw puzzles together? I think I saw a kitty one in my toy chest,” Kiki asked.
“I love them—and cats,” the woman answered, brushing a hand over her CC’s Purrfect Coffee T-shirt.
“You have such a fun job. I can’t wait to hear about it. I’ll run and get the puzzle, and then we can chat,” Kiki suggested.
“Can I come see your nursery? Do you have one?” CC asked.
When Kiki hesitated, her Daddy stepped smoothly into the conversation. “Kiki’s nursery is under construction. Can she show it to you the next time you visit?”
“Of course. It takes a while to get everything set up exactly how you like it. I’ll wait right here,” CC said, smiling at Kiki.
In a flash, Kiki scooted down the hallway to grab the puzzle she’d spotted in the toy chest. Returning with it cradled to her chest, she found Terry clearing off the kitchen island so they could put the puzzle together there. Climbing onto the comfortable bar chair, she showed CC the picture on the front.
“That’s so pretty. We had a calico kitten in the shop last week. Someone adopted her quickly. It’s the black kittens that have trouble finding a home,” CC said sadly.
“Why?”
“Some people think they bring bad luck,” CC answered, shaking her head.
“That’s silly,” Kiki observed as she dumped the puzzle pieces onto the flat surface. “Help me find all the edges first.”
As the Littles bent their heads over their task, Terry and Hunter chatted. Kiki and CC thanked him when Terry set a sippy cup in front of each of them filled with cold juice. They paused in their search to take a drink.
“Yum! I love cranberry juice,” CC said and drank a bit more.
Both women listened carefully as the conversation between the Daddies took a more serious tone. Kiki and CC worked very quietly and snuck looks at the two men. Kiki held her breath when she heard the direction of their conversation.
“You mentioned you had some questions about keeping your Little healthy?” Hunter probed.
“I want to make sure I take good care of Kiki,” Terry shared.
“Does Kiki have any health concerns?” Hunter asked seriously.
“I’m new in Kiki’s life. We’d have to ask her,” Terry confessed. The two men turned to look expectantly at Kiki.
“I’m good. I could lose a few pounds,” Kiki admitted, feeling her face flush.
“Couldn’t we all?” CC bemoaned, making Kiki feel better immediately.
Grinning at CC, Kiki handed her the next piece in the section in front of CC. “How many cats do you have at the café?” she asked to distract them from the Daddies’ conversation.
“It depends on the shelter,” CC explained before continuing. “Usually we have about ten, and I have one that lives with me. He comes to the café with me every day.”
“That’s awesome. Do they always get along?” Kiki asked.
“Not always. But the shelter only brings the most social animals.”
“That helps.” Kiki snapped several pieces into place.
As they fell quiet once again to concentrate on the puzzle, Hunter’s voice reached their ears.
“Check her entrance for any problems like bulging tissues or excessive redness before using the suppositories. Standing in the corner for five minutes with one dissolving inside her will usually solve any problem that causes a Little to be grumpy,” Hunter recommended.
Kiki automatically squeezed her bottom muscles. Still feeling the slickness of the lubricant from the jar in the nursery between her cheeks, Kiki could imagine the feel of her Daddy pushing medicine into her tight channel. Dragging herself from her thoughts, she shot a glance at CC for confirmation.
The other Little nodded and whispered, “It does always work. Even though I don’t realize I have a problem, Daddy always figures it out, and I feel so much happier.”
“Then it’s a good thing?” Kiki double checked.
“Afterward, it is. During, I’m usually dancing by the time Daddy calls me out of the corner,” CC confided. “I cussed at him once, and he put two inside me with a plug.”
“Oh, no. And you still felt better?” Kiki asked skeptically.
“I did after I got my reward for being brave,” CC shared with a waggle of her eyebrows before lowering her voice to mimic Hunter’s voice. “Daddy knows exactly what you need.”
“I’ll write you a prescription for a normal dose. You let me know if we need to increase or lessen the strength to help Kiki feel better. I’ll go get my prescription pad from the car,” Hunter offered before standing and walking out the front door.
“Daddy! I don’t need those,” Kiki whispered furiously.
“Daddy knows exactly what you need, and CC’s Daddy has the solution for a grumpy Little with a tummy problem. I know both of you don’t drink enough water and don’t take time to use the restroom when you need it. This medicine helps CC. We’ll give it a try,” Terry told her with a look that kept her from arguing.
