“I do as well. I have two. I have a snowflake on my wrist and an evergreen tree on my upper back.”

“It’s stunning. Just like you,” he says, before clearing his throat. Blushing, I drop my head to hide my smirk. I feel like a love-sick teenager. I have got to get a handle on this. “I wish I could stay longer today, but we have a palace meeting I have to get to. But I brought you some gifts.” Immediately, I perk up.

We walk over to the other bag and pull out about fifteen paperback books. “Oh my gosh, Frost.” I am practically jumping up and down and all for books.

“I thought you could use something to hold in your hands, you know.” I blink a few times, amazed at how well he seems to get me in such a short period of time. Not thinking and purely acting on instinct, I lean on my tiptoes and kiss his cheek. Suddenly, I am hit with a short spark that makes my lips feel like they are on fire. I assume it is only me until his hand touches his cheek.

“You felt that too?” I ask him, not sure what to do.

“I did. It’s like...” He doesn't finish his statement , but he doesn’t have to. I feel it. Every unspoken word from him is in my chest, and it is scaring the hell out of me. I did not expect this.

CHAPTER

TWO

FROST

I immediately put my hand on my cheek, mirroring her actions. It’s as if neither of us can believe this feeling is real. The heat that I feel there is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. I don’t understand what’s happening, but I want more of it. The more I get to know Elise, the more I want her. I’m at a loss for words right now. I take another step toward her as she takes a step back.

Don’t be afraid, Princess. Let me…” I trail off. All I want to do is pull her into my arms and make her mine. I quickly calculate how I can make that happen.

“I’m not afraid…I just don’t understand what’s happening.” Her normally pale face is flushed and heated. I’ve never seen her skin like this before. She is somehow even more gorgeous than she normally is. I can’t help but wonder what she’d feel like under me as I drive into her.

“Can’t you see what I see?”

“What’s that?” she asks.

“We belong together. It’s plain as day.”

“You can’t know that. We just met.”

“But I do.”

“There’s no other explanation for what’s going on between us.”

“There has to be.”

“Don’t argue with me,” I tell her, chuckling.

“What else am I going to do with my time?”

“You are hilarious.”

“I try,” she says, looking through the books that I brought her. I watch as she pulls out a romance novel I found in my parent’s sitting room. For some reason, I knew she was going to pick that one first. I do believe this is the first time I’ve ever been jealous of a picture.

Reaching forward, I tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. She shivers under my touch. She turns to look at me, and as I reach toward her, my stupid phone rings in my pocket. When I pull it out, I see that it’s my father. Fuck, this is the last thing I want to deal with right now.

“I need to take this,” I say, grimacing.

“Of course,” she says.

I turn away from her and slide my thumb over the button to answer the call.

“Hello, Father,” I say dryly.

“Son, you need to come home. Your future wife and her parents are here. You’re late, and you are embarrassing your mother and me. Now, don’t make me send a tactical team to find you.”

That’s the last thing I need. I don’t want anyone to find Elise here. She’s mine.

“I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

“Make it fifteen and dress appropriately.”

“Sure thing,” I say, hanging up the phone.

“You’re leaving?” she asks, sounding like she doesn’t want me to go. The feeling’s mutual, princess.

“Yes, I’m sorry, but I have a meeting I forgot about.”

“Oh, of course. I’ll see you later. I’m just going to read my book,” she says, holding the book up.

“Alright. Enjoy it; I’ll be back later.”

I step out of the cabin and into my car. The drive back to the palace is reflective. I would rather do anything but this.

I pull into the drive, and one of the valets opens the door for me. I exit the car and rush inside.

“How bad is it?” I ask my brother, Rudy, who is leaning against the large table in the foyer.

“Mom and Dad are pissed, but otherwise, it seems to be going well. The parents are having drinks together in the West Parlor. Donner and Vixen are in the East Parlor with your future wife.” The way he says future wife gives me pause.
