I led the way, saying, “Harper? You and Justin out–”

I took two steps, rounded the shed, and woosh! It went dark. Something was shoved over my head. “Hey–” A hand covered my mouth and before I could register what was happening and sink my teeth into that hand, it was replaced. I got half of a scream out before something was shoved into my mouth, and then I felt tape going around my entire head.

I began fighting, harder once my brain caught up to me.

I could see a little through whatever had been shoved over my head, but it was so dark.

Two guys were there, and just as I tried running, two arms wrapped around me and I was lifted off my feet. I was struggling, kicking and wiggling around.

“Jesus. Shit!”

“Shut up!”

“Get their phones.”

Hands were pushing into my pocket, searching. They pulled back out, and I heard a smashing sound soon after.

I didn’t recognize either voice, but they were males and I was being carried quickly into a vehicle. I registered what it was just as I was thrown inside. They had covered up the back lights and a second later, I felt a body land next to me. Aly’s groan identified her and I tried to reach out, grabbing her hand. I couldn’t find her hand, but her head was pressed into my chest. I rolled around, able to get the covering off of my head. I kept scooting around just in time to see two other guys had jumped out from the back of a van. One guy disappeared. The other reached for the door.

I was trying to roll my way out, but he saw me coming and laughed. He shook his head before slamming the door shut.

That’s when I realized they had tied my hands together too, and behind me.

Funny. I hadn’t even noticed that part.

KALI

They kidnapped us. I couldn’t believe I was freaking being kidnapped!

We were in the dark and I couldn’t see much inside. A seat or something was blocking from where we were and where they were, but I felt around and found Aly’s hands. I was thinking either adrenaline was going hard in my body, or the booze were kicking in because I wasn’t scared. No shock either. It was just, okay. This is the situation. Now, let’s get out of this situation.

So I was trying to do that, by pulling on Aly to roll with me to the door.

There was no one else back here. I didn’t know of a vehicle that would keep a door locked from the outside in, except cop cars but no way was this that. There were three guys in the front, and this was a big van. They had the windows rolled down in the front, which was either ingenious on their part so we couldn’t identify their voices, overhear them, or it was stupid.

I was hoping it was the stupid part because that meant they couldn’t hear us either. Or hear us rolling around.

Every time I tried to make a sound, I ended up eating fabric, from whatever they’d stuffed in my mouth. I couldn’t see, but I was assuming they’d done the same to Aly.

Hence, why I was trying to tug her for the door.

She wasn’t budging. So, ugh. I moved over to the other side of her, put my shoulder into her side, and began pushing her for the door. She moaned, struggling around. I groaned, deep in my throat until suddenly, she went where I was pushing her. Now this was the hard part. My hands were tied so when she got to the door, I sat up and leaned in so she could see me. It was so dark, but I knew this road. We’d traveled it with the bikes so I knew a light post was coming up. I waited until one flashed over the van and as it did, I motioned to the door with my head.

Aly’s eyes got big, but the light was gone and we waited until another post passed over us.

I nodded. She nodded, and I began to sit up, turning around and reaching for the door with my hands.

This would be hella uncomfortable, but no way was I waiting around here for wherever they’d take us. That was Staying Alive 101. Don’t go with your kidnappers. Aly must’ve sensed my nerves, because she moved in, leaned her head to my shoulder and let it rest there.

That felt nice, but okay. Oh man.

I was so nervous. Another post went over us, Aly gave me a nod, and I jerked mine up and down but waited until it was dark again before opening the door.

It did–hell yes! But I was falling and oomph. I landed hard on my wrist. I was pretty sure it was broken or strained, and then I heard Aly fall just a little after I hit the pavement. I groaned, hoping against hope that they wouldn’t know that door had opened. It’d been dark when they had the door open when they put us inside so I didn’t think it would kick the light on again. I looked, but I didn’t see their lights on at all. They weren’t braking.
