My caseload exploded after my handling of Mr. Rouse’s defense, and I’m suddenly buried under an avalanche of work. I make the time to stop by the bookstore a couple times and find that Maddie is just as busy with last-minute tasks before the grand opening. It frustrates me that we haven’t found the time to reschedule our dinner or even spend a little time together.
My sister called and bugged the hell out of me until I caved in and told her everything. After our long talk, I made Allie promise to keep my secret from the rest of the family until I make headway with Maddie.
By midweek, I’m done waiting. My fucking hungry cock is ready to rebel if I don’t make a move soon. Nightly jack-off sessions aren’t cutting it anymore, and I’m running out of time before the constant erection becomes permanent.
Wooing my girl needs my full attention, so I decide it’s time to call in my favor from the Rouse case. Jude grumbles when I ask for vacation time but agrees to give me the rest of the week off. “Just make sure you come back in a better goddamn mood,” he growls as I race from his office.
Once I get the rest of my cases squared away with other attorneys, I rush out the door like the hounds of hell are on my heels. I don’t plan to waste any time putting my plan into action. Leaving work early for the first in months feels strange, but there’s no fighting these crazy feelings.
As I rush home to wait for my girl, I admit that my family’s crazy love ailment finally caught up with me. My heart belongs to Maddie, and it’s time for me to do something about it. The curvy little thief reached into my chest and stole my heart. Now, I’ll do whatever it takes to make her mine forever.
I’m pacing a hole in my living room carpet when I see my girl’s tiny red car pull into her parking spot.
I hear her footsteps in the hallway and throw open my front door, startling Maddie. My girl jumps and holds her chest. “God. You scared the heck out of me.” A wide smile stretches across her face. “What are you doing home so early?”
“I thought we might spend the evening together.” I step close to her, then lean over to place a kiss on her upturned nose. “I missed you, and you still owe me dinner.”
“Oh.” She swallows. “I missed you, too.” Her bright blue eyes meet mine, and I feel my heart turn over in my chest. “I’d love to spend the evening with you.”
Before I’m able to stop myself, I pull her curvy body into my arms and cover her soft lips with mine. Her shocked gasp fills my mouth as I slide my tongue against hers.
“God, I needed that.” I force myself to pull back slightly while keeping Maddie close to my side. “Now, can I interest you in dinner and a movie?”
She blinks several times and opens and closes her mouth before sighing. “Yes.” Maddie bites her luscious bottom lip. “That sounds great.”
CHAPTER
FIVE
MADDIE
An hour later, his loud knock on my front door sends the butterflies in my stomach fluttering around. I’m not going to squander my second chance with Fischer.
I open the door and smile up at him. “Hi.”
“Hello, little thief.” He pulls me close and kisses me, causing my mind to shut down.
When he pulls back, I barely resist the urge to fan myself. The hot attorney looks delicious in his faded blue jeans and light gray polo shirt stretched tight across his muscular chest. I’m tempted to run my fingers through his perfectly styled dark brown hair.
I have the urge to jump his hot body, and I shake my head to clear the crazy thoughts from my mind. He reaches for my hand and gently pulls me out the door. His touch causes my body to overheat, and I feel my nipples poking through the front of my thin dress shirt. Shoot. I should’ve worn more than one layer to hide the effect he’s having on me. These physical reactions to him still shock the heck out of me.
“You are so fucking beautiful.” He squeezes my hand. My brain is having a hard time keeping up as we walk out to his big black SUV. He opens the door for me and helps me into the massive vehicle. “I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep my hands to myself tonight.” How in the world am I going to get through this dinner without making a fool of myself?
“Who said you have to keep your hands to yourself?” There goes my mouth again. Running away without consulting my brain.
“We’ll discuss what I want to do with my hands later. How was your day?” Fischer’s quick change of subject causes my head to spin
