Trev had gone down to the kitchen, and I stopped to reply to her many texts. She’d asked if I was having a good time and if Saxon had been over to visit. I laughed at that.

Wrong guy, Mom.

I wasn’t going to tell her about Trev though. That wouldn’t go over well. It wasn’t like this was headed to anything serious.

Once I was done, I continued down the stairs and headed for the kitchen. I had worked up an appetite. Trev wanted to go swimming, just us, but we both needed food first.

“Not your business,” I heard Trev say to someone, and I stopped.

“It’s family business. That makes it mine,” a deep voice replied.

“No, it doesn’t. You’re not the boss yet. Dad is still the fucking boss. You’re my brother. Back off.” Trev’s tone sounded annoyed.

“Do not push me, Trev.”

I backed up, not sure I should be listening to this.

“What do you want to know, Blaise? You want details? What the fuck is it you need me to tell you?” Trev raised his voice.

“Garrett is going to propose to Fawn Parker. He’s bought the goddamn ring. He knows there is shit we don’t know about her, but he doesn’t care. He’s fucking infatuated. That’s why I care. If you are fucking her daughter, you’re gonna need me to protect you from Garrett.”

I covered my mouth so the gasp that escaped me was muffled. Mom would say yes. This wasn’t a what-if anymore.

“Like you didn’t fuck Gina,” Trev shot back at him.

“I was in high school, and she just sucked my cock,” he replied. “This is different.”

“You don’t know what’s going on. How do you know it’s different?”

“You were late to a meeting, which you hadn’t wanted to go to when called because you told Gage you were fucking. Sax had informed Gage you’d gone inside with Gypsi. You can’t let pussy get in the way of the job.”

“HA! Like you didn’t? Do I need to remind you just how in the way you let Maddy get?”

A loud slam made me jump.

“Fuck, Blaise. Calm your ass down!” Trev yelled.

“Don’t bring Madeline into this.” His voice made me shiver.

I didn’t know Blaise Hughes, but I didn’t think I liked him.

“Whatever. You know I love Maddy. I am just pointing out that you’re drilling me over something you did.”

“No. I was in love with Madeline long before she walked into this world here. It is not the same. You are fucking Gypsi. You don’t love her.”

Trev was quiet. “Okay, fine. I’m sorry I was late to the meeting. Won’t happen again.”

“No, it won’t. Because next time, it might not be a meeting about some dipshit on a motorcycle trying to get onto the property. It could be more serious.”

I stopped breathing. What was he talking about? Was he talking about someone on a motorcycle trying to get on this property? Here? Oh God.

“If he shows again, Six will wound him, and we’ll take him underground for questioning. You need to be ready for that call.”

“I will be. Now, let me fucking eat. Gypsi will be down any minute,” Trev grumbled.

Wound him? Underground? Questioning? He was being serious. Trev hadn’t laughed like Blaise was joking. He’d not even been surprised by his words. Who was Six?

I backed up and leaned against a wall.

The motorcycle could be Tyde. He had found me here, but couldn’t get on the property. They were looking for him. Waiting.

Maybe they weren’t in danger. But did that mean I should stay? Tyde would go away if I did. Mom would freak out if I left. She’d come rushing home from Paris. I heard footsteps, and I straightened, then made my way to the kitchen. My mind was reeling with one question after another. If this was Tyde, they thought they could wound him. But he wasn’t a regular criminal. They wouldn’t be prepared for his level of dangerous … or would they? They had an underground for questioning. That sounded pretty dark. Wouldn’t they just call the police?

“Ms. Jimmie is at my house today, helping Madeline with Cree,” Blaise said as I stepped into the kitchen.

Both sets of eyes turned to look at me. I forced a smile and turned my gaze to Trev.

“Hey, Lollipop. Come sit down. I’ll get you some pancakes that Ms. Jimmie left us,” he said to me, then glanced at Blaise, who was studying me. “Oh, and this is Blaise, my brother. He’s currently pissed at me. That’s why he’s scowling. He scowls a fucking lot. And as you know, Blaise, this is Gypsi Parker.”

“Nice to meet you,” I said to him, wishing he’d leave. He made me nervous.

He nodded his head once. “Looks like my father and brother have the same taste in women,” he drawled. “You’re a replica of your mom.”

I laughed nervously. “Um, yeah, I guess.”
