It had hurt that he’d always been destined for bigger and better things than Honeybridge. It had hurt that he’d always been one more thing I couldn’t have. But that was no excuse for the way I’d deliberately, repeatedly misjudged him.

I glanced across the darkness toward him. His face was partially lit by the light from the dash, and the angle of his jaw begged for my lips. I bit back the urge to kiss him.

“You’re a good man,” I admitted softly.

JT glanced in my direction and bounced his eyebrows at me. “Mmmhmm. I’m gonna be real good for you.”

I knew a deflection when I heard one, and it made my breath catch. He was doing it again, trying to keep things light and casual for my sake. Trying to calm me down and give me rest.

But what I really needed was to be brave. To do what I’d already told myself I’d do and stop flip-flopping between hot and cold with him.

As soon as he pulled the car into the small lot behind the bed-and-breakfast, I grabbed his hand and practically yanked him through the large house and up to our room. Then I closed the door and nudged him toward one of the chairs by the windows.

“Sit there.”

He obeyed immediately. I cued up a certain playlist on my phone and set it down on a nearby table. As soon as JT’s eyes landed on me, I began a slow striptease.

“Patsy Cline? Really?” he teased, even though his eyes were blue fire, plenty hot enough to tell me he was just fine with my music selection.

“‘Crazy for You’ was the song playing at the General Store when you bought me a pack of candy cigarettes in fourth grade,” I said, pulling the hem of my shirt up enough for him to see my happy trail, a sight I knew turned him on more than almost any other part of me.

His eyes darkened. “Was it?”

I nodded and pulled my shirt the rest of the way off. “And the next song was the one that was playing at the lake when you kissed Jackson Irving senior year.”

JT’s knuckles turned white where he gripped the arms of the chair. “He kissed me.”

“You let him.” I moved my hands to my belt as I did a slow, sensuous turn and shook my ass. JT’s breathing hitched. These were really nice pants, perfectly fit in the rear to show off my assets.

“I only let him because I was too busy staring at your dick print in those yellow board shorts you wore to notice when he came at me for the kiss.”

I completed the turn and met his eyes. They were hungry enough to make my stomach tighten. “Really?”

He nodded and slumped down in his chair so he could spread his legs to make room for his own tightening pants. His hand came down to rub himself, which only made me hotter. “Firecracker, when we were in high school, I couldn’t keep my eyes off you. I used to jack off every fucking chance I got. I was late to fourth period English nearly every day because the sight of your happy trail in the locker room would make me pop wood. And one time, the summer between junior and senior year, I saw your ass in your tight softball pants and had to run into the men’s room at the ballpark to get relief.”

I opened my pants and turned around again, lowering them enough to reveal the snug briefs I wore. “This ass?” I wiggled it for him until he groaned.

“Get over here,” he growled, “and sit on my dick.”

I faced him again as the song changed to “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy. JT barked out a laugh. “Oh, shit, I remember this,” he said. “Jackson tried to jerk me off in the water later that night. Didn’t want to take no for an answer. I told him to try it on with your cousin Len.”

“Len’s straight.”

“No shit. But Jackson deserved the prudish set-down Len gave him.”

Now it was my turn to laugh. Len had never been homophobic, but he’d been the leader of the purity brigade back in high school. The very idea of someone hitting on him would have sent him into a tailspin of pearl-clutching.

“Know who’s not straight?” JT demanded. “Me. Hurry up with the naked-making.”

I let the pants slide to the floor and ran my hand over my junk, squeezing and stroking through the red cotton before running my hand up my stomach to my nipples. “Where’s the fun in that?” I asked.

JT sat up and began pulling his own shirt off with a muffled “Fuck this.”

I continued playing with myself while he stripped. Once he was completely naked in the chair, I continued the tease by sliding my thumbs into the waistband of my briefs. “I’m hard as fuck for you,” I said. “Going to fuck you against the back of that chair.”
