“So…you’ve had your hands full,” he said in a playful voice.
“Even fuller than what I originally told you. Give me a second.” I pulled out my phone. It was shitty that Ian couldn’t be here with us. If I had it my way, he wouldn’t have gone to work at all after what I did to him last night, how much he dropped, but he was a stubborn little thing.
How are you? I texted Ian.
Fine, just like I was the last time you messaged. Are you going to do this every time?
I smiled. Yes. You’ll learn that. I want to take care of my boys.
I know. Thank you, Sir.
“Oh, you have it bad. You’re grinning from ear to ear like a few minutes ago when you watched Jordan disappear with Finley.”
“I can’t help it, man. They’re irresistible.”
“Hold that thought.” Aidan opened a box on his desk that I knew had cigars in it. He didn’t partake often—neither of us did. In fact, this would probably be only the third time since I’d known him that we smoked together, but he removed one for each of us, cut the ends off, handed mine over, and we lit them. The smoky warmth filled my lungs. “You may continue,” he said.
“Oh, I may, huh?” I teased. “I want to keep them both. Jordan is one hundred percent down with the plan. Ian will be more difficult, not because he doesn’t want us, but because…well, I don’t think he believes we can really want him.”
“Finley is worried.” Aidan inhaled his cigar.
“He doesn’t need to be. I’ll take care of them. You know I’ll always put them first.”
“I do. That’s what I told him. I trusted you with Finley, for God’s sake. I wouldn’t do that with just anyone. But two boys? Do you know what you’re getting yourself into? Finley keeps me busy enough. I can’t imagine two of him.”
He was right in some ways. All I did was think about them or want to be with them if I wasn’t at work. Hell, I hadn’t seen my mom and sister in too long. Zoey was giving me shit. I’d missed a few calls from Tony. Still, I could handle it. I wanted to. “Well, I guess you’re just not as good as me.” I winked. He rolled his eyes, and we enjoyed another puff of our cigars. The room filled with smoke, which I let myself enjoy as well. “They are…breathtaking, Aidan. Jordan is such a bright fucking light. Ian calls him Sunshine. He makes Ian smile and feel comfortable in ways even I can’t. I know it’s because of him that Ian is volunteering. He…I don’t know, it’s like he has enough courage and zest for life that others around him can feed off it. I do. Ian does as well.”
“I can see that. I know Finley connected with him right away. He’s eager, which I think we could both always see, but he’s happy and likes to have a good time. It’s hard for someone like Jordan to not be infectious.”
“You make him sound like a disease.”
He chuckled. “Addictive?”
“Very,” I replied. “And Ian is the opposite in many ways. He didn’t always come off that way, especially with Finley, but then, he doesn’t have the same relationship with Fin that he does with anyone else. It’s like he lets his guard down, but he’s been letting it down with us as well. He’s…deep and introspective, with a fierce independent streak, but then he melts under praise and care. I think…I think he’s spent his life taking care of others, and now we get to take care of him.”
“That makes sense too. When I first brought Finley home, I thought of Ian as this scrappy little guy who wouldn’t stop calling to check on him. Even threatened me a few times.”
That didn’t surprise me at all, and picturing it made me smile. Ian deserved someone who put him first too, who loved and protected him, and now he had both Jordan and me to do that.
I said, “I’d like to plan something with the five of us. If you’re interested. I think between you and me, we can set up a scene that we can all get something out of. We won’t touch Finley, of course, if you don’t want us to.”
I’d fucked Finley once, with Aidan there, and while we’d all gotten what we needed out of it, Aidan and Finley both decided sharing wasn’t for them.
“And you’d let us? Have your boys?”
“I don’t know. I would have to talk to them first about their limits. We’d have to have a discussion. We decided to be exclusive, but it might be different with the two of you. Still, I’m not sure I want to share them. If I did, you and Finley would be the only people I’d allow it with.”
