Shifting into gear, he spun out as he raced down the gravel road, ass end fishtailing a bit before he yanked her back under control. Within the hour his new information in his mind, he was pulling up to an apartment building and parking off to the side.

He followed an older couple in, flashing a badge then joining them in the elevator. They were going to the third floor he was headed to the seventh.

Jeremy headed straight for apartment 7J and didn’t bother knocking. Turning the handle, he shouldered it open, the flimsy lock, no match for his shifter strength. The smells and sounds of fucking reached him and he snarled low as he walked through the apartment, noting the high end items that decorated the space.

At the bedroom, he cracked his neck then stepped in the room. Two men were on the bed, face to face, fucking. Without a single care, he walked up to the duo, grasped the man on top and yanked him off the bottom, leaving the man gasping in shock, his small cock hard with his hand around it as his asshole winked at him, still open from the interrupted fuck.

“What the hell man? Who the fuck are you? Do you know who I am?”

The man he’d tossed was unconscious on the floor so Jeremy didn’t spare him another look. Eyes narrowing on him, he set one foot on the bed so the tip of his boot was near the man’s ass.

“I know exactly who you are. You’re the dumbfuck who sold out his partner.” He snarled at him, teeth lengthening. The man kicked at him and Jeremy gripped his ankle, claws pushing free from his fingertips and into the flesh. “Your partner, Dianna Levitt, is my woman. And I have some questions.”

Chapter 3

Dianna sighed as she continued to sit on the floor. She wasn’t about to complain, for the first time in however long, she wasn’t cold. So, being tied up in a corner was peanuts compared to what she’d been in.

Not that they needed to tie me up. I have zero plans on leaving this warmth.

Every now and again, she flexed her muscles, trying her best to keep them limbered up on the slim chance there was an opportunity for her to escape. It wasn’t easy keeping herself awake. For how many ever days it had been she’d not wanted to sleep in the cold so now that warmth had settled in her bones, the exhaustion had followed like a bloodhound on the scent.

Biting the inside of her cheek, she would occasionally pause once she drew blood. The men in there spoke around her. It didn’t matter, she didn’t speak the language. Hell, short of what they spoke being a Slavic language, she didn’t have a clue what they were speaking.

They wanted to think her stupid and expendable, that was fine. She would be more than happy to sit and wait for them to overindulge on their drink. Right now, she was good.

At least, in a far better situation than I had been. They want me alive for something and so this plays in my favor. They won’t hurt me right now. Well, at least they won’t kill me.

She could handle a beating or three.

Such a shame she didn’t know who they were. Or where she was. These were men she knew needed to be off the street.

The door opened and one large man walked through. Large as in muscular, not fat. Her entire body locked up immediately and she had to force herself to relax.

Whoever it was, he was a predator. Shaggy dirty blond hair fell over his forehead and into his eyes. Eyes which when he glanced at her, were cold and predacious, much how she figured a shark’s would be.

“I told you I had her.” The heavy set man she had come to learn was Ivan Kováčová grinned and waved a flesh hand. “I will see my money now.”

The man dismissed him without so much as a glance before moving in her direction. Everything within her screamed for her to run away. His light gray shirt hugged his torso, highlighting the power it barely contained. Dark blue slacks rested on lean hips before stretching over highly muscular and thick thighs.

Get out.

Find safety.

The cop instincts she had were in complete agreement with her instinctive ones. She didn’t move. Tamping them down, she waited.

Running from or fighting this man would be pointless. He was more than just a predatory man.

He was a shifter.

Before finding out one of her besties was one, she had no clue of this other world in which men and women could—and did—shift into animals as well as have their traits while in human form. It had taken her a while to come to grips with it, but Selena Rowe was one of her ride and dies, so it didn’t matter what the hell she was. Dianna loved her and would always defend and protect her best of her ability.
