“I took a break from SAR.”
Now she narrowed her gaze. “Took a break.”
All he heard was the scraping of utensils and looked around her to see his brothers had cleaned their plates and were pushing back their chairs.
They all shared a look and he knew they were leaving, they didn’t want to be around when the rest of the shifters arrived. His brothers made him look like the life of the party.
“Leaving?” Dianna questioned.
“It’s best that way.” Macsen gave her a smile.
Jeremy frowned when she left his lap and walked over to the twins.
“Thank you.” Her words were sincere and straight forward. “For everything you did. I know, you’re shifters and you’re not going to take me up on it but if you ever need anything, call and I will be on the first plane, train, or automobile needed to get me to wherever you are.”
He started to get up from the chair but she held a hand out to him he paused. Did she not him by her side. Dianna wriggled her fingers and he stepped forward to take it. His heart rate settled as their fingers interlaced.
Macsen nodded at him, his lack of words saying so much. His brothers approved of his woman. A short nod from Vaughn and a hug from Macsen and the twins were gone. She waited after the door closed for about five seconds before she squeezed the hell out of his hand.
“Gonna tell me why you took a break?”
“Not going to ask about who took you?” Anger stirred at the memory.
She snorted. “Please, as protective and possessive as you are, that’s not something I have to concern myself with and thinking about it is only going to piss me off.”
He tugged her close and kissed her temple. “You’re absolutely correct.” Slipping his hands beneath her shirt he cupped her breasts.
Dianna moaned and leaned into his touch as she started panting.
“I love how responsive you are to my touch, mate.” He nuzzled her neck. “I smell how wet you are.”
Her panting increased and she shifted against him. “Do something.”
He plucked her nipples and she shuddered, angling her head to expose her neck.
“I am.” Jeremy dragged his tongue along her neck and the mark on her shoulder exposed by his oversized shirt. Her mewl pumped lust through his veins and thickened his cock even more. “Or maybe you want me to bite you as I fill you with my cum. Make you scream and fuck you until you can’t come anymore.”
A car engine approached and he snarled, neither him nor the beast happy for the interruption. Scenting the air he picked up on his teammates.
“Yes,” she panted.
“We don’t have time.” He released her breasts and tugged his shirt down. Slipping his hand down the front of her Florida Panthers sweats he rubbed a knuckle along her core.
Her hips bucked into the touch, not so subtly asking for more.
“I’m going to stop. You need to get some food in you because—”
“Dianna!”
Rigid for all of a second, she moved, flinging his hand out of her pants as she burst out the door. He followed and watched as Selena, Emily and Jo bounded out from the two SUVs that had arrived and swarmed her. Excited squeals and screams left the quad of women.
Their mates exited as well and he watched CC and Ziggs move at a slower rate, allowing the best friends a reunion. His guys walked up and circled around him.
“You should have called us.” Lando frowned at him.
“You need to keep your mate safe.”
He sniffed the air. “You called your brothers.”
How Lando knew about them he didn’t know and only shrugged. If he didn’t know better, he’d think Lando was hurt. Looking around the men by him, his thought only got stronger.
“I’d be mad but you were putting our mates first.” Femi smacked him on the shoulder.
“Let’s chat and figure out how we stop this fucker.” Ziggs crossed his arms and set his feet.
“No arguments.” Kennan. “You’re family.” A glance to where the women had pulled CC into the huddle. “Both of you.”
He nodded. “Let’s figure it out.”
He had family. He had friends and he would do whatever he could to keep his mate safe. As well as the women of his friends.
Sharp laughter from the women had him looking over to where they stood. Dianna lifted her head and smiled at him. Her hair shorter and tight curls now that she’d pulled up into a messy bun to sit on her head.
The other women followed her line of sight, smirked and teased her even more. She gave as good as she got.
Soon, they were all inside, cooking more food and simply catching up. Whatever tension between Emily and Dianna was gone. Almost losing your friend was enough to put things into perspective.
When she slipped up the hall to head to the bathroom for more medication, he followed, caging her in and kicking the door closed behind him.
