“Good night!” she called to the men still in their offices and didn’t wait for their responses.

Emerging from the church, Molly was tickled to see the rain had passed, and the sun was peeking out of wispy clouds. She almost skipped to her car and slid in behind the steering wheel. In seconds, she had herself organized.

Molly drove carefully home. By the time she pulled into her apartment complex, she was buzzing with excitement. She turned the corner to see her apartment building. Her heart dropped. There wasn’t a bike anywhere. He hadn’t come to get her.

Instant tears prickled her eyes. Blinking furiously, she pulled into a random parking space. Her usual one held a large pickup with heavily tinted windows. She took a minute to try to pull herself together. Hearing a car door slam, she looked up to see who she’d have to make it past to get to her apartment. Faust stalked forward toward her.

She threw her door open and raced to jump up into his arms. He caught her easily and held her close.

“Now that’s a welcome, Pixie,” he said with the corners of his mouth twitching upward.

“Were you in that truck? When I didn’t see your bike, I thought you’d decided not to come.”

“I will never go back on my word, Little girl,” he said sternly.

“O-Okay. Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize for a misunderstanding. I should have warned you. We hadn’t talked about riding a bike, so I borrowed Steele’s truck.”

“I’ve never ridden on a motorcycle,” she confessed.

“That’s what I figured. I’ll give you some lessons when you’re ready to ride on my bike.”

“That sounds like fun,” she said and laid her head on his shoulder as she tried to blink away her tears. His hand stroked over her back soothing her as if he understood just how upset she had been.

“Are you hungry, Little girl?” he asked.

“Oh, I’m wasting time,” she blurted, wiggling to get down.

“Holding you is not wasting time. Ever,” he assured her as he set Molly’s feet safely on the ground.

She smiled at him, feeling his words all the way to her heart. “I was going to change into jeans to ride on your bike. I’ve already had my dress blow up today. Zero out of five stars—do not recommend.”

“Do I need to kill someone?”

She blinked at his instantly serious look. He was kidding, right? “Um. No one. I just walked around the parking lot and that storm popped it. It whipped my skirt up.”

“Would you be more comfortable in jeans?” He didn’t address her explanation, but his expression softened once again.

Molly hesitated, feeling the wind still blowing around her. “That’s probably smarter.”

“Go, Pixie. I’ll wait right here.”

“Okay. I’ll be fast.”

Molly turned around to see her driver’s door open. She looked over her shoulder to see Faust nod in encouragement. Leaning in, she grabbed her purse and tote bag from the passenger seat before realizing the view she was providing him. Embarrassed, she quickly stood up and slammed the door shut.

She turned to look at him and saw him adjust himself inside those snug jeans. Something inside her heated as Molly recognized she had been the cause of his condition. Hiding her grin until she turned back to the building, Molly hurried inside and up the stairs to her apartment.

Racing to her bedroom, Molly took thirty seconds to tuck Angel safely in bed. “Go to sleep. I’ll be home in a bit.”

With that task completed, she dashed into her closet and pulled the dress over her head as she slid out of her sandals. After putting one in the laundry bin and the other in her shoe rack, Molly found her favorite pair of jeans and debated on the right shirt.

The image of Faust in his snug black T-shirt popped into her mind. Impulsively, she grabbed her pink shirt with a black accent trim around the neck and sleeves. They’d match without being too obvious.

Quickly pulling on the clothes, she grabbed her favorite pair of sneakers. She only wore them on special occasions to keep them clean. In a few minutes, she had socks and her high-tops on. She took a minute to pee and put a bit of eyeliner, mascara, and tinted lip gloss on.

Returning to the bedroom, she grabbed her purse and waved goodbye to an already sleepy Angel. Molly took time to lock her apartment door before rushing down the stairs and out the door. Faust pushed away from the truck. His face looked panicked as he ran forward.

“Stop!”

Immediately, she skidded to a halt. A car rushed past her the next second. She felt the rush of air as it continued through the apartment complex at a high rate of speed. Shocked, she let her breath out in a long gust.

“Are you okay?” Faust was by her side. He gripped her upper arms while he scanned her body looking for any injury.
