“So, we were talking about what we want to do, and we’re thinking mud scrubs with seaweed facials first, followed by massages, and then a warm-down in the sauna. What do you think?”

“That all sounds fantastic. My skin could definitely use the treatment.”

Malia claps her hands together. “Perfect!”

Things have been picking up at Frills, but this spa day is still well outside my usual budget. I will have to spend a couple of weeks eating pasta to make up for it. I thought rent back home was expensive, but out here, it’s crazy, and my landlord already warned me he’s going to raise it when it’s time to renew my lease. I’m not sure if I can find somewhere else as perfect for Shiloh and me as this is, so I might have to suck it up and make some lifestyle changes to make the rent work.

For now, though, I’m going to enjoy myself and try not to think about how much the spa is going to set me back.

We check in and are given robes to change into. The other three girls disrobe in our little room, and though I’m not super comfortable with it, I do the same.

“Think they would notice if I stole the robe?”

“No, but you don’t want to,” Malia says with a scrunched nose. “They reuse them for everyone. Who knows who has worn that.”

“You’re telling me there’s a chance someone famous has worn it, so maybe I should steal it.”

Malia and Carly both laugh at my joke, but Shea remains straight-faced. I’ll win her over yet. I’m determined.

The girls and I stay together throughout our time at the spa, and by the time we’re in the sauna, my skin feels baby soft.

“This was a great idea. Thanks for inviting me along.”

Malia throws an arm over my sweaty shoulder, our skin sticking together. “I’m glad you could come, and that you’re having fun. But I’m also starving. Dinner after?”

“Harvest is open until midnight, and they’ve started serving food. What do you think?”

“What’s Harvest?” I ask Carly. It has been a couple of hours now, and Shea seems to have warmed up to me, but I think I’ll have a better chance at befriending Carly.

“It’s a winery,” she explains. “We could finish our girls’ night in style!”

I smile at her. “Sounds good to me.”

Shea shrugs. “I’ve got nothing else going on.”

“Yay!” Malia says. “Are we done in here? I think I’ve sweated enough.”

“Yes, please,” Carly says, standing up. We all towel off and head to our massage room to get dressed again. Once we’re ready, we go to our cars and agree to meet at Harvest, about twenty minutes away.

I’m the first one to get there, so I go in and grab us a table. When the girls arrive, we each order a glass of wine and stare at the menu.

“Everything sounds really good,” I say. I don’t add this, but it seems reasonably priced, too. I had to break out my credit card to pay for the spa. It actually wasn’t as much as I expected, but still higher than I can spend regularly. I think next time I’ll suggest a stay-at-home spa day like Malia and I had a few weeks ago.

“I want a big juicy burger with piles of bacon,” Malia says. “This picture sold me on it.”

“You know it never looks like the picture,” Shea warns.

Malia sticks her tongue out at Shea. “Don’t ruin my fun. As long as it’s greasy and unhealthy, I want it.”

“How do you stay so thin when you eat like that?” Carly asks, frowning. “I’m not about to change my diet, so I’ll need to take your metabolism.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve noticed a few pounds packing on,” Malia admits. “But I do spend a lot of time walking around. That helps.”

“Meh. Sarah doesn’t mind my weight, so I guess I’ll stick with it.”

“Exactly.”

We order our food and get to know each other as we eat and drink. It was after nine when we arrived, having spent a few hours at the spa becoming even more beautiful. We end up staying until they close down at midnight. It’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

Malia yawns and finishes the last of her second glass of wine. We didn’t want to go too crazy since we all drove, and it has been nice to have a relaxing evening. The lights are up, and it’s time to go home.

“This was so much fun,” I tell the girls again as I hug them each goodbye, including Shea, who is somewhat warmer toward me.

“We’ll do it again soon,” Malia promises.

“Yes, please!”

I hop in my car and drive back to my house, tapping along to the pop song playing on the speaker as I go. Though it was fun to have a girls’ night, I do miss Spencer. He texted me once earlier, but I haven’t heard from him since.
