Cruz’s eyes seem to sparkle with amusement while Carver’s seem to get impossibly darker. Grayson scoffs and is the first to turn away, more than done with the conversation. He stalks toward the Escalade, practically tearing the door open before sliding into the front passenger seat. My attention flies off him when Cruz laughs. I slice my gaze across to his and can’t help the smirk that settles over my lips as his heated stare bores into mine.
Fuck me, this guy. He’s got it all. He’s going to be the one to get me in trouble.
Cruz shakes his head, not wanting to laugh too hard and piss off his friends, and without warning, turns and stalks back to the Escalade just as Grayson had done, only he looks back at me as he goes, his lips pulling into an intrigued, flirtatious grin that speaks right to my pussy.
“So, then there were two,” I comment, raising a brow as I reach for my helmet, preparing to pull it over my head.
King just keeps staring as Carver puts on a show of being the big guy in charge, refusing to be the one to break, but little does he know that despite his capabilities to intimidate me, I’ll still happily do this all day long. There’s something about his stare that pulls me in, and damn it, it’s the most thrilling thing I’ve ever experienced.
King, on the other hand, doesn’t have time for games, and while his interested gaze is still heavily on me, he’s more than ready to give it up. He rolls his tongue over his lips and turns away. “Come on, bro,” he calls to Carver. “Let’s get out of here. We’ve got shit to do.”
Carver doesn’t move, holding my gaze for a moment longer until Grayson’s frustrated scoffs fill the nearly empty parking lot before he leans over to the driver’s side and lays on the horn. Carver’s gaze narrows further and a silent message passes between us, telling me to watch my back while I remind him that I’m not the bitch to be messed with.
After kicking up the stand on my Ducati and balancing the bike, Carver turns on his heel and makes his way to the Escalade. He climbs in, and I can’t help but watch as all four stormy eyes are set on me one last time, the tension thickening by the second. Our eyes finally break as Carver hits the gas and takes off like a rocket, leaving me behind in a cloud of smoke, wondering what the fuck just happened.
I pull on my helmet and flick down the visor, bringing my bike roaring to life. As I give the school one last glance, I notice Sara Benson standing with her hands on her hips and a furious scowl across her face. It’s damn clear that she just witnessed whatever bullshit just went down between the boys and me. For some reason, knowing that it gets under her skin is just the icing on top of one hell of a delicious cake. Though as it is, I don’t know what kind of cake it is yet, but it screams of danger, and that’s just my kind of treat.
I can’t help but laugh, and although Sara can’t see my face beneath my helmet, I get the feeling that she knows I’m laughing at her. So just to rub salt in the wound, I rev my engine as loud as it can go before peeling out of the parking lot, intent on having a good afternoon.
CHAPTER 6
“Where the hell have you been?” Kurt slurs, giving me just enough warning to duck out of the way before the empty bottle of whiskey comes hurtling toward my head. “You should have been home hours ago. Look at this mess. Clean it up.”
The bottle smashes behind my head, and the pieces ricochet all over the living room. I close the front door just in time before the dog comes running in and cuts his feet all over the broken glass.
My glare snaps up, and I meet Kurt’s furious stare. “Excuse me?” I demand, dealing with Carver and the boys giving me way too much confidence. “I didn’t make this mess. You’re a grown-ass man. Clean up after yourself, and if that’s too hard, then get your wife to do it. I’m not your little bitch.”
“What did you just say?” Kurt questions, struggling to get to his feet. He stumbles across the living room, having to catch himself against the wall to avoid crashing into the side of the lounge. “You sure have a little mouth on you, don’t you? You’re a disgrace. No wonder nobody wanted you. You’re lucky that me and Irene took pity on you and took you into our home, and this is how you repay us? Show us some fucking respect.”
