We round the corner, and there’s the waterfall. It’s stunning as it cascades down smooth, dark rocks into a crystal-clear lake. The water sparkles in the early afternoon sun, the mountains towering behind it, their peaks full of green trees. The scene is like something out of a postcard, the perfect blend of rugged nature and serene beauty.

“Wow,” I breathe, taking it all in as Violet steps up beside me, her eyes wide with awe.

“It’s gorgeous,” she whispers, her voice soft, as if she doesn’t want to break the magic of the moment. She drops her backpack onto the soft grass, her gaze locked on the waterfall, and for a second, I’m not even looking at the view anymore—just at her.

I watch as she runs a hand through her hair, letting it fall loose around her shoulders. Her skin glows in the sunlight, a soft flush from the hike still lingering on her cheeks. She looks so free, so relaxed, and I can’t help but be mesmerized by the sight of her.

“Can you believe this place?” she says, turning to face me with a radiant smile, noticing a few small freckles that dot her nose. How have I never seen them before?

I shake my head, still a little breathless from the hike, or maybe just from being here with her. “Not really. It’s like something out of a dream.”

She laughs lightly, then kicks off her boots, already eager to dip her toes in the cool water. “C’mon, let’s get in,” she teases, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

I drop my own backpack, my gaze never leaving her as she walks toward the edge of the lake. The water ripples gently as she steps in, her toes sinking into the smooth stones beneath the surface. She lets out a small gasp when the cold water hits her skin, but she doesn’t back down.

“This is perfect,” she says, glancing back at me over her shoulder, her eyes gleaming under the sunlight.

I’m nearly mesmerized watching her wade in a bit deeper, the water rippling around her legs. Her hair catches the light, glowing like fire against the cool blue of the lake. But something gnaws at me, a strange feeling creeping in. Where is everyone? We were supposed to meet up with the group here, yet the place is deserted.

Violet casually lifts her shirt, revealing the light-blue bikini top underneath, and tosses the shirt onto the shore. “Are you coming in?” she asks with a teasing smile, the water lapping at her calves.

“Where is everyone?” I ask, scanning the area once more. There’s no sign of our group. There’s no extra backpacks, no distant voices. It’s as if this spot was untouched, waiting just for us.

For a second, Violet freezes, as if just remembering that we weren’t supposed to be alone. She glances around. “Oh, I don’t know.”

I can’t shake the feeling that something’s off. I scan the perimeter again, looking for any signs of movement. Nothing. Just the tranquil sound of the waterfall and the wind rustling through the trees. “I don’t think anyone’s been here,” I say, the words lingering in the air. “Maybe we got the wrong place?”

Violet looks around again, the playful smile fading into a look of mild confusion. Her eyes sweep over the serene landscape, taking in the empty shoreline. “Maybe?” she says, though her voice is unsure now.

I take a few steps closer to the water, my boots crunching against the pebbles, and look around one more time. It’s as if this spot, beautiful and secluded, had been left entirely untouched.

“Well,” I say, trying to break the tension, “if we are at the wrong spot, at least we got the best view.” I gesture toward the waterfall, the mountains towering behind it, but my eyes keep drifting back to her, Violet, standing there in her bikini, water reflecting off her skin, looking so effortlessly stunning.

She grins, the uncertainty melting away. “And no one to interrupt us,” she adds, her voice low and suggestive.

Fuck.

She doesn’t need to say anything more. If my family was here, I’m glad they’re fucking gone now.

I kick off my boots and peel off my socks, the cool air hitting my bare feet. With a quick motion, I fling off my t-shirt, tossing it to the side. As I straighten up, I catch Violet’s eyes on me, her gaze lingering a little longer than usual. There’s a spark in those sky-blue eyes, and I feel the tension between us intensify.

I slow my movements deliberately, my pulse quickening as I wade into the water beside her. The coolness is refreshing against my heated skin. The water laps gently at my calves, but I barely notice it. My focus is on Violet. Her soft smile and the way the sunlight catches on the droplets clinging to her skin turns me on more than I’ve ever been.
