Sarcasm dripped from my next words. “You think?”

“Amen, Eagle!”

Jean-Pierre studied me. “Are you okay?”

I motioned my handcuffed wrists. “What part of me would be okay right now, man?”

“I need your help, but if your head isn’t in the game—”

“My head is in the game—”

“You were crying the whole time you were asleep and whispering for Emily to stop hitting herself and for your father too—”

"Relax." Embarrassment filled me. “It was an old dream. Never mind that. What’s the plan?”

“I tried running out of here on my own, but Timur hit my head and dragged me back to the pews. He’s strong.”

That must have been where the bruise on Jean-Pierre’s forehead came from.

I eyed him. "Did you tell him that you knew Eden?"

"I did. He nodded as if he already knew. Then, he flung me back into this pew and told me to be quiet."

I checked the place. “What’s the way out of here?”

“The brown door behind him.”

Leaning to the side, I checked and spotted it. “Fuck. Timur is too close. Maybe, we can double team him.”

“He has an AK-47 by the door.”

I frowned.

Timur grabbed our attention. “Thank you. Thank you. What beautiful voices you all have!”

I turned back to him.

Timur watched us. “Now to our new members of the church.”

I looked behind me, wondering who he could be talking to.

Timur's voice held excitement. “When trespassers came on the land yesterday, I thought that evil demon snake was working his mission.”

Evil demon snake?

Timur curved his lips into a deranged smile. “But then my daughter called to see if her friends had come by for a visit.”

Jean-Pierre snapped his view to me. “You called Eden on my phone?”

“Thank God I did. It saved us.”

"Maxwell, your definition of saved is truly horrific."

Boris bobbed his head. “Amen, Eagle!”

I groaned.

“And the Great Eagle has brought these three into my life!” Timur took a hit from his pipe. Gray smoke left his nostrils. “Today, we will baptize our new members in blood.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Say what now?”

Chapter 8

The Plan

“W

e must begin now before the hour of the fox." Timur went over to the door and picked up the AK-47.

The hour of the fox?

Timur walked over, grabbed Boris’s shoulders, and slowly helped him up.

Boris deliriously chuckled and rose. “Will I see the Big Eagle?”

“You sure will.” Timur gave him his hand and helped him leave the pew. "You will see that and more."

“Excuse me?” I raised my cuffed hands. “I have a few questions.”

Timur faced me. His dick dangled from the movement.

I let out a long breath. “After we are baptized, could we sit down and talk about our further activities? Maybe, even get a phone to—”

“Why would you need a phone?” Timur frowned.

“Just to tell. . .everyone about the Great Eagle.”

Timur shook his head. “Not many should know.”

"Why not?"

"You saw what happened to Jesus. This world is full of people that will kill the good."

“Okay.” I bobbed my head. “Then, could I call my. . .grandfather to check on him. He is really sick. I just want to make sure he is okay and—”

“The Great Eagle will watch over him.” Timur walked off with a limping Boris. Both of their bare asses jiggled.

Boris glanced over his shoulder at me with wild eyes. "I am going to see the Great Eagle!"

"Yeah, man. Have fun." My stomach twisted. “Maybe, I’m not in a church. I might be in hell. Perhaps, we're dead.”

Timur and Boris went through the brown door behind the pulpit.

Jean-Pierre leaned my way. “I have a plan.”

“To get us out of here?”

“What else would the plan be for?”

Hope filled me. “What’s the plan?”

“When Timur baptizes you, restrain and knock him out. Then, run back to free me.”

I frowned. “That’s your big plan?”

Jean-Pierre nodded.

“Knock his big ass out in some fucking blood baptism area that I don’t know about?”

“You try. If you fail, then I will try—”

“You mean, if I fail, he kills me and then you may have a chance because he’s tired out from wrestling with my dumb ass.”

“I considered that.”

“I bet you did consider that.” I tested the cuff, wondering if I could pick them open with something. However, there was nothing around to help. “I have a plan.”

Jean-Pierre quirked his eyebrows. “Okay.”

“One of us needs to get out of these handcuffs—”

“Well, Maxwell, that’s a genius plan.” Jean-Pierre sneered. “All we need to do is get out of the handcuffs.”

“Listen, man.” I shook my right hand and made the handcuff clink. “I knew this guy named Alcatraz. He was born Jason, but people called him Alcatraz because he was always getting arrested for something and then escaping.”

“Escaping jail is not a problem.” Jean-Pierre shrugged. “I’ve done that, but not with handcuffs on.”

“That’s the thing. Alcatraz never did a day in jail. He always slipped out of the cuffs, undid the police door, even though it was locked from the outside and fled.”
