“I want to live with you,” I say, knowing in my heart that this is the right decision. “Let’s go home. Today.”
He kisses the top of my head as he breathes out a sigh of relief. “Are you sure you don’t want to finish the trail?”
“I’m sure. I came onto this trail to start a new life, and now that I found you, I have that new life. I’m excited to get started on it. I want to go home with you. To Blackcloud Point. Today.”
He scoops me up against his chest, stands up, and starts heading back in the direction that we came, carrying me along the trail as I watch his gorgeous face.
“All right,” he says with a deep smile that makes my body tingle. “Let’s go home.”
Chapter Ten
Julian
“This is it?” Madison says when we arrive on my ranch, which is hers now as much as it is mine.
I get an empty pit in my stomach as I look at her angelic face, trying to see if she likes it. “Is it okay?”
“It’s perfect,” she whispers as she looks around. “When can I meet your brothers?”
“Ummm.” I look around nervously. Of my three brothers, two want to kill me. Well, to be fair, Adrian always wants to kill me. That feral grizzly bear wants to kill anyone who enters his forest. He doesn’t play well with others.
I gulp as I look at Cameron’s house, half-expecting him to come charging out of the front door with a homicidal look on his red face.
“Maybe you can meet Logan first,” I say with my heart pounding. “He’s our adopted brother, but right now he’s the only one who doesn’t want me dead.”
“What do you mean?” Madison asks with a laugh.
“Nothing,” I mutter. “Come. I’ll introduce you to Zoe and Jane. They run the produce part of the farm.”
“What do we have here?” Zoe asks, looking at Madison when we walk into the huge greenhouse.
Jane wipes her sweaty forehead as she stands up to get a peek. “Is that your…?”
“Yup,” I say with a grin so wide I don’t think it can fit through the door. “I found my mate.”
“I thought you were hiding out in the mountains,” Zoe says, looking confused. “Did you find her lost in the woods?”
“Sort of,” Madison says with a laugh as she walks over. “I was definitely lost when Julian found me. I’m Madison.”
They shake hands and Zoe gives me a smiling nod of approval as my girl introduces herself to Jane.
We chat a bit and they look so happy for me. They’re a couple in their fifties who have been with us since us Bowen boys were teenagers. I don’t think they ever expected me to find my mate, but I know they were tired of hearing me constantly whine about not finding her.
“Does Cameron know you’re back?” Jane asks. She shoots Zoe a worried look.
“I thought the answer to that would be obvious,” I say, “seeing as my head is still attached to my body.”
“What do you mean?” Madison asks.
“Cameron is a little irritated with me.”
“Irritated?” Jane says with a laugh. “That’s not the word I would use.”
Zoe is shaking her head. “Enraged. Livid. Rabid. Murderous. Apocalyptic.”
“Those are more appropriate words,” Jane says, nodding to her lover. “He wants you dead.”
“What did you do?” Madison asks, looking a little afraid.
“I might have accidentally seen his mate’s… breasts.”
The door opens behind us and I leap around, a little more startled and jumpy than I usually am. It’s just Logan.
He struts in wearing a pair of jeans, a tight black t-shirt, and the black cowboy hat that never leaves his head. “You’re still alive!”
“Come on,” I say, starting to feel a panic take over. “He can’t still be that mad.”
Zoe laughs. “Do you know your brother at all?”
Jane is nodding. “Especially when it comes to his mate.”
“How did you see her topless?” Madison asks with a fire in her voice. I think I’m not the only one who’s jealous when it comes to their mate. I can see it in her eyes and it makes me grin.
“She was breastfeeding and I just happened to turn my head and—”
The door slams open and Cameron’s huge frame fills it as he thunders into the greenhouse. He does look apocalyptic as he glares at me with a fury in his eyes.
“Hey, Cameron!” I say in a tight high-pitched voice. I really don’t want to get my ass kicked in front of my mate. “I’ve been wanting to talk to you.”
He slams his big palm into his fist over and over again as he stomps toward me. “And I’ve been wanting to do something to you.”
Logan jumps in front of him and puts a hand on his chest. “Have you met Julian’s mate?” he says, jerking him out of his homicidal rage.
