“Aw, really?” they cried in unison.
“Yup, dinner will be ready in a few minutes, and you need to wash up before you come to the table,” I reminded them. “I made your favorite—sloppy joes with macaroni and cheese.”
“Woohoo!” Greg cheered as he jumped off the swing set.
Gus stayed right where he was, his green eyes narrowed. “What veggie are you gonna make us eat?”
“Peas.”
“Phew,” he sighed, finally going down the slide to follow his twin brother. “I thought you were gonna say green beans ’cause they’re Angela’s favorite.”
The boys were protective of their little sister but weren’t fans of many of the foods she liked. Not that she ate that much since she was only three years old.
After Grady and I got married, I had only stayed at the school for eight more months. Giving birth to twins put a damper on my plans to return to work. We had a lot of help with them from our Iron Rogues family and our parents, but paying for daycare for two infants—even with my employee discount—didn’t make any sense. Especially when I couldn’t bear the thought of not being with them all day. Even though they would’ve only been down the hallway from my classroom, I would have missed out on too many milestones.
When they turned three, I was planning to finally go back. But finding out that I was pregnant again put a stop to that. The last thing I needed to do was spend my days running around a classroom full of little kids, only to do the same with the twins while home at night, all while carrying another baby. Deciding not to return to work was a decision I never regretted. Grady and I were building a family together, and I spent my days with the people who I loved most in the world. Including the sexy biker who had upgraded the security in his home office so he could work from here more often, including when he was dealing with club business. Or at least some of it.
Following the boys into the house, I headed straight for Grady’s domain and rapped my knuckles against the door.
“Come in,” he called.
I opened the door and poked my head into the room. “Dinner’s ready.”
He got up and strode toward me. “Need any help with the kids?”
“Nope, Angela is already at the table, munching on some leftover green beans from last night while chatting my mom’s ear off, and the boys are washing up from playing outside.”
My parents decided to do the opposite of most retirees and moved from Florida to Tennessee shortly after I told them I was pregnant with the twins. They didn’t want to miss out on the joy of being a grandparent, and they spent lots of time with the kids.
“You’re such an incredible mom.” He followed his compliment—one I’d heard often—with a kiss that left me breathless. “And a fan-fucking-tastic old lady.”
“I do my best,” I whispered, my cheeks heating.
“You do a fuck of a lot more than that, gorgeous.” He brushed his thumb across the apple of my cheek. “Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the fact that you can still blush after all these years?”
“Once or twice.” I winked at him. “Usually after we’ve done something new in bed.”
“Gotta keep my younger wife happy,” he teased, settling his hand on my lower back to guide me down the hall.
Before we reached the kitchen, I stopped and turned toward him. “You don’t just make me wildly happy, you keep me on my toes each and every day.”
“You’ve figured out my plan…I’m keeping you so busy that you’ll never stop to think about leaving me for someone closer to your age.”
I’d gotten used to his teasing me over our age gap and knew he wasn’t really bothered by it. “You might’ve done your job a little too well this time.”
His brows drew together. “What do you mean?”
“It seems we have a new tradition.” I placed Grady’s hand over my belly. “We apparently celebrate our children’s third birthdays by giving them another sibling.”
His green eyes widened as his lips curved into a satisfied grin. “You’re pregnant?”
“I haven’t taken the test to confirm it yet because I know you’ll want to be with me for that, but my period is two days late—”
“And the only other time that’s ever happened is when you were pregnant,” he finished for me.
“Yup,” I confirmed.
“Fuck yeah,” he breathed. “I hope it’s another girl. Then we’ll have two of each.”
His wish was granted…and then some. We ended up with another set of twins, both girls this time.
