“Awww…my very own fairy tale of true love playing out before my very eyes,” Jeremy piped in, interrupting their private moment. “If the two of you don’t mind, I’d appreciate you point me into the direction of Cassie’s gay porn collection and I’ll be out of your way. I’ll leave you guys to do what ooey-gooey lovers do.”

Remi scrambled off the couch and held out his hand to Ryder. “Come on, Detective. You have some investigative work to do. I could very well have evidence planted in all sorts of places on and in my body. Wanna take a look around and see if anything interests you…Roomie?”

Ryder stood up and answered, “There’s nothing I’d rather do.”

Before Ryder could yank Remi into his arms and drag him to the bedroom, caveman-style, Remi’s eyes rolled back in his head and he hit the floor.

“Oh, shit…here we go,” Jeremy said as both he and Ryder dropped down next to Remi. “Get him comfortable. Grab a pillow off the couch,” he ordered. “Are you going to be able to talk him through this, Ry? What the fuck are we going to do? I had a bad feeling when mom’s flight got cancelled. I was afraid Eric would get desperate and start moving faster.”

As Ryder stuffed the pillow beneath Remi’s head, he chanted in his head, repeatedly, that he would be able to give Remi the support he needed. He had to be able to. If he lost Remi, he didn’t know what he would do…how he could go on living.

Chapter Eight

It was the fastest astral projection Remi had endured to date. He wasn’t sure if he was learning to be more aware of his surroundings, so he could pass that information on, or if he was simply growing accustomed to it happening, and he no longer panicked. Panicking led to a lot of wasted time and, as always, there wasn’t time to spare. His soul flew back into his body and he experienced that absolutely wonderful feeling of peace and tranquility that he did every time his soul joined with his body again. When the largest part of him wanted to do nothing but lay there and enjoy the wonderful feeling, he forced himself back to a state of alertness.

His eyes flew open to find Jeremy and Ryder leaning over him, looking fucking terrified. Each one of them held one of his hands and Gilley sat right on top of his chest, her strangely colored eyes watching him closely. His eyes quickly searched for the large decorative clock Cassie had hanging over the sofa, just to ensure he hadn’t been out longer than he thought. When away from his body, he had absolutely no concept of time. Six minutes…longer than he’d thought.

Shit.

“Okay, we’ve got to get moving,” he told Ryder and Jeremy. Carefully, he picked Gilley up and sat her on the floor next to him. “It wasn’t an Olympic-sized swimming pool; we were misinterpreting his kill notes,” Remi told them. “It’s that new place they’re opening up on Trident street. It’s called Olympus. That’s where Ron Perry is, and we need to hurry.”

Ryder carefully pulled Remi into a standing position and then held him tightly when he swayed with weakness. “You stay here, babe. Let Jeremy and me take care of Perry. You’ve told us where he is; we can handle it from here. You need rest.”

Remi immediately started shaking his head. “No. Forget it. I’m going. I know I won’t be much help, but I’m going to be there…in case something goes wrong.”

“Promise me you’ll stay on the sidelines, Remington,” Ryder said. “I can’t risk anything happening to you. We all know how drained you are afterwards.”

“I promise. I promise,” Remi said. “Now, let’s go. It looks like we have plenty of time to get to him, but that’s what scares me the most.” Remi shook his head. “Something feels different about this one, Ry. We need to be extra careful. Veronica and Gary were there, but it was like they didn’t want me to come back and help. That doesn’t make sense.”

Jeremy’s eyes instantly went to Ryder. “You think Perry could be involved with Eric somehow? Are we walking into a trap?”

“No! Ron is scared to death,” Remi countered quickly. “He wouldn’t be able to fake the fear I felt, the fear that pulled me to him. He isn’t a part of this.” Remi gave Ryder a shove. “Seriously, let’s go. Oh, I need to grab something from the garage, first. Then we need to haul ass. Olympus is only about ten minutes away, but there’s an urgency tugging at me.”

“Let’s go, Ryder,” Jeremy said. “I’ll call 911 on the way.” Turning to Remi, he said, “Don’t forget your promise, Remi. You are benched the entire time we’re there.”

“Benched. Got it. Easy peasy.”
