“Romero.” I lift my head and open my eyes, looking up at him. He’s just as lost as I am, wrapped in pleasure and excitement. And us. “Romero…”

I’m close, so close. I need this. I need him to make me feel good, to know he wants to make me feel good. To know he’s here with me now, and nothing else matters.

Which is why I whimper in desperation when his phone rings. “Don’t, don’t,” I beg, jerking my hips frantically, chasing the high that was so close.

His forehead wrinkles before his mouth opens then snaps shut. “I just have to…” He reaches for the phone with his fingers still inside me, and his frown deepens.

After one quick glance my way, he answers. “Boss?”

I collapse against the desk, barely stifling a sigh of… What? Disappointment, for sure, but why am I more disappointed? Because I was close to coming, or because he couldn’t ignore his master’s voice just once?

“Sounds good. I’ll have all that ready when you get back. See you soon.” He won’t look at me as he ends the call, withdrawing his fingers. They glisten in the light from the lamp on the desk. And then he grabs a tissue and wipes them off, almost like he’s irritated, before he starts straightening himself out. “They’ll be here in about five minutes, if that. Thank God he called.”

I can’t believe this. I honestly can’t believe it. “That’s it? The end?”

“What do you think?” He reaches into his pants to adjust his dick, still hard and straining against his zipper, then tucks his shirt in. And here I am, still leaning back on my elbows with my jeans around my calves.

“You know, some people would take it as a challenge to see how fast they could come.”

“Don’t be a child.”

“I’m starting to wonder if you have a split personality. How can you turn it on and off like that?” I snap my fingers, staring at him.

“Fix yourself up. At least pull your pants up before they get here.”

“And what if I don’t?”

“We both know you will, because you’re not stupid.”

“Is there ever going to be any aspect of your life you don’t let my father rule over?” I hop off the desk and pull up my jeans, trembling with anger and disappointment. He will never choose me. Never. When am I going to get the hint?

“Did it ever occur to you that I’m doing this just as much for your sake as mine? I mean, he could lock you in that wing. The worst he could do to me is blow my brains out.” He barks out a bitter laugh, even though he isn’t joking. We both know it.

“He wouldn’t do that to you.”

“It’s a moot point, anyway. And he called at the right time. That was… wrong.” He settles into his chair and even pulls a bottle of hand sanitizer from one of the drawers before slathering it on his hands.

“Dude. You need to make up your mind.”

“My mind is made up.” He lifts a shoulder, shuffling papers around. “It was a moment of weakness. That’s all.”

And here I am, surrounded by pieces of my freshly shattered heart. How can he be this way? A minute ago we were locked together, kissing and touching and everything. He won’t look at me now. “Do you think it’s going to be any easier when we’re living together again?”

At least that slows him down like he’s thinking. “Things can’t go back to the way they were then. We both know that.”

“Stop telling me what I know.”

“Stop wasting my time.”

“You know what I know? I know you’re still too afraid of life to be anything more than Daddy‘s lap dog. You do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. It’s easier to let somebody else make your decisions for you, right?”

“Keep talking,” he mutters before finally looking up at me. “And don’t forget to sound hateful and dismissive while you’re at it.”

“Already way ahead of you.”

“But you’re not hateful and dismissive enough to keep from jumping on my dick every time you get a chance, are you?”

My head snaps back in surprise. My hands curl into fists and for one crazy second, I can see myself driving them into his face. We’ll see how good he looks after I beat the shit out of him.

Too late. “You’ll never believe it. Charlie actually —”

Dad stops short when he finds me standing at Romero’s desk. “Oh. Hello. How was your session?”

“Fine. Things are going really well. What did Charlie do?” Because anything is better than him asking what he just walked in on. I wouldn’t know where to start, and I don’t think Romero would do much better.

“I was going to tell Romero about how he shook my hand after lunch and thanked me for taking care of Bianca. Can you imagine that?” He can try to play it off all he wants, but I can see how glad he is. After all the bad blood between them, it seems like they’re finally reaching common ground. I’m sure that makes Bianca happy, too.
