Her desperate whispers are music to my ears. I’m a king, on top of the world, able to turn her into a gasping, needy thing. Me, only me, nobody else. Only I can take her to this place where she lets go of everything but the here and now. What she needs the most.

And now she needs to come, tightening around my fingers, her cries rising in pitch, her nails scraping my scalp to the point of pain. I won’t stop her. This is what she needs, this is what I want for her. To lose herself in me. Come for me, Princess. Come for me.

Her body goes stiff, freezing on the edge between tension and release – and then it breaks, and she spasms once, twice, her ecstatic cries echoing through the room. “Yes! Yes! Romero!” Then she goes limp, sighing, legs falling open and going still.

Her bare chest heaves when she lets out a breathless laugh. “My God. You are so good at that.”

Tatum reaches for me, pulling me close once I stand, wrapping her legs around me. I hold her for a moment, stroking her messy curls before her deft little fingers brush against my aching erection.

But the clock is ticking. My full attention wouldn’t be on her. I pull my hips back, shaking my head. “Later.”

Her brows draw together when she looks up at me, and I kiss her forehead. “As I said, I do have work to do. Believe me, I’ll have you take care of that later.”

“No fun,” she mutters, pouting. Playing the brat to break me down. The temptation to give her what she wants is almost too much to resist.

“No fun? What do you call what just happened? It sure as hell sounded to me like you were having fun.”

“You’re not wrong.” Her lips twitch until she can’t hold back a grin. “Well, since you’ll be too busy to get your dick sucked, I should go to the store. We really need food – no offense, but even great sex isn’t enough sometimes.”

When my stomach growls loud enough for us both to hear, we share a laugh. “Okay, you’ve got me.” Even though there’s still a part of me that doesn’t like her going out alone, it’s probably for the best that she is not around when I make this call. The less she knows about the plan I’m about to present to Callum, the better. Plausible deniability and all that. It’s not the same as hiding things from her – though I know that’s how she would take it if given the chance.

Maybe I just don’t want her thinking about him. She needs to think about me, us. The present… if not the future. Because there can be no future here. Of all times to think about something like that, but it’s true.

She doesn’t seem to notice the change in my mood, too busy laughing about her shaky legs when she lowers herself to the floor.

“Remind me to disinfect the counter later,” she observes with a wry grin. I have the pleasure of watching her walk away, the hem of the sweater brushing the curve of her ass. It’s hypnotic, waiting for a flash of those firm, supple cheeks before she disappears around the banister and runs up the stairs.

Rather than wait for her to do it, I pull out the cleaner and paper towels to wipe the counter. Not that I’m generally domestic, but right now, I would do anything to avoid making this call. Callum will be happy, of course – that’s not what I’m worried about. It’s knowing how hard I’ll need to fight my guilt every second we talk. Every minute he’s trusting me. He trusts me, and look at what I’m doing. I lost track of the number of times we’ve fucked over the course of this week. I’ve already gotten used to falling asleep with her in my arms. I can’t think about that while I’m talking business with him.

Tatum is exiting the steamy bathroom once I make it upstairs. “Aw, damn. I could’ve used some company in the shower.”

And the sight of her wearing nothing but a towel with her curls pinned up on top of her head unleashes fresh hunger in my core. It’s like every part of her was set up to tempt me. “I’m distracted, anyway,” I murmur, but that doesn’t stop me from grabbing her ass as she walks by. The sound of her giggles is a gift. I was sure for so long that she would never laugh like that again. That she would never feel lighthearted again. That he had taken that from her, too. But now she is humming to herself as she heads for the bedroom. I’ve never seen anybody so happy about running errands.

The time I get out after a quick, hot shower, she’s gone. The house feels empty and eerily silent without her. I can’t linger on that while I hurry through drying off and getting dressed. I need to get this over with. He’ll be happy, and that’s what matters – even if he wouldn’t be, should he find out the truth. He can’t, that’s all. This can only exist between Tatum and me.
