“Yes, sunshine?” He made a thinking sound as chopping started in the background.

“It was kind of mean of me to be surprised when it was Damon getting spanked. I get spanked and it’s very nice, but he’s so big and so frowny.” That wasn’t it, though. “And he doesn’t say much to me, so I thought he was confused about submission but that’s not likely.”

I kind of thought he didn’t like me because I was a sub.

Daddy chuckled. “No, he seems to understand what that means. But I don’t think you were being mean, sunshine. He did come across as very…let’s call it private. But Caitlin came across as outgoing and confident, so I can see her being the dominant partner. Have you meet any couples like that before?”

“No.” Thinking back, I frowned. “Well, I waited on a few at work. But they were much more…showy? Is that a good way to describe it? They weren’t being subtle because it seemed part of the game.”

Hmm.

“But they’re not the game type, right?” I wasn’t sure if that was a good question but Daddy sounded like he shook his head.

“No, they’re the regular people type. I think Damon is just a very private person. He might not have had many friends he could share that side of himself with.” Daddy made a thinky sound. “Has he talked about friends?”

“No.” That was easy to answer. “He sees Caitlin and that’s about it.”

For a junior, he didn’t seem to have many friends. “I think you might have a point, Daddy.”

But how did that help my current dilemma?

“Then I’m going to advise you to be patient with him and while it will be difficult for you, maybe try to open up first?” When I groaned, he tried not to laugh. “I know. But he might need to see that it’s okay to talk to you about that kind of stuff.”

I didn’t want to have to be the grown-up.

“I don’t have to do that fast, do I?” My question had Daddy snickering.

“No, sunshine. There’s no time limit on it. But how about your goal is to share one thing with him this week?” It wasn’t an order so groaning and sighing seemed reasonable. Daddy just waited for a few seconds. “But you’re not going to be theatrical about it?”

“No, Daddy. No theatrics.” Not for much longer, anyway.

“I didn’t think so.” Humming to himself, Daddy paused. “This needs something else.”

He talked to himself about spices and sauces for a while, but I thought that was to change the subject and make me relax.

It did.

It also made me hungry.

“Daddy?”

He pretended to be surprised when I said his name. “Oh, I’m sorry, princess. Yes?”

He was so sneaky sometimes.

“I’m hungry. I think spanking time has to be over or his bottom is going to be too sore to sit down.” It hadn’t sounded like a punishment kind, so I didn’t think it’d take too long. “I think I’m going to go back upstairs and pretend to walk in the first time.”

“If he was making happy sounds, I think you’re right.” He made some mumbling-to-himself noises. “That looks good. Yes. Oh, and sunshine?”

“Yes, Daddy?” I thought he was going to talk about his food but he snuck in real talk.

“If something they’re doing makes you uncomfortable, you have the obligation to set boundaries. It’s a rule, sunshine. I will not have my boy upset. Is that clear?” Daddy actually Daddied me with a real rule, and it was such a surprise, I stayed quiet too long. “Hearing him get a happy spanking is one thing, but if they do something that makes you uncomfortable, you have to protect my princess. Got it?”

“Yes, Daddy.” I was just a tiny bit theatrical that time. “I can protect your princess.”

And a big part of that was going to be finding a way to make sure Damon knew when I had class and when I would be at home.

We needed a calendar on the fridge.

“You can do it.” Daddy was trying to sound confident, but I wasn’t sure either of us believed that.

“Yes, I’ll protect your princess, Daddy.” For about twenty-four hours and then I was going to go home where Daddy could protect his princess…and maybe his puppy too.

Chapter 24

Tate

“I talked to people. I went to my first classes. I did homework. I told Damon we had thin walls.” Throwing himself through the front door, Addison barreled into me. “I’m done being a grown-up. I’m going to be a puppy now.”

That answered several of my questions—starting with wondering when he’d get home—so I just wrapped my arms around him and kissed his nose. “Puppy time sounds like fun.”

He’d timed it perfectly, giving me just enough time to get home from work and change clothes before he’d pulled into the driveway. I wasn’t sure if he’d planned it that way or not, but he’d arrived at the right point in the evening to have my complete attention.
