It was the weirdest backhanded compliment I’d ever received.

“Sorry?” My odd response had him chuckling and he gave me another kiss, this time firmer but still just as sweet.

“Never. I’m very glad it’s turned out so well.” He sounded happy enough I was hoping for another kiss, but it seemed like he’d decided to behave.

That sucked…and even my little side wanted to pout.

“Now, do you want to ask me how I would like to spend the evening?” The smile in his voice as he teased me again had me fighting back a giggle.

“Yes.” That was a question I didn’t mind asking. “How would you like to spend the evening?”

His pleased as punch hum had me shaking my head. “Well, until the hour runs out on the clock, I would like to sit down and have ABC nuggets and get to know artist Camden and little Camden. Once we’re on our time and not your grandmother’s, I’m open to suggestions.”

Snickering, I nodded. “Yeah, no dating-type stuff on Grandmother’s time. That would just be…”

He laughed and kissed my neck again as my voice trailed off and a shudder went through me. “I’m glad we’re on the same page.”

With that, he stepped back and resumed his seat at the table like the kissing hadn’t happened at all. The only thing that said he was still thinking about it was the way his eyes sparkled when I finally peeked over at him nervously.

“So…” Get to know me. He wanted to get to know me. Yes, I could do that. I also knew I should get to know him. “You don’t mind chicken nuggets?”

It was a start, at least.

“I don’t mind them at all.” He glanced between the fridge and the pantry and tried not to smile. “I take it they’re a staple even if the rest is slightly empty?”

Blushing, I ignored the teasing tone as I worked on getting lunch together. “Yeah, they get delivered by a service that comes automatically along with a few other fun things I have to special order. There’s only so many dinosaur nuggets you can eat before you need other shapes.”

As I wandered around the kitchen trying to stay on track, I looked over at him out of the corner of my eye. He wasn’t laughing. It honestly looked like he was taking it seriously and I found myself holding my breath as he started to respond.

“Yeah, I don’t know why there aren’t more shapes.” Leaning back, he reached out and started turning his water glass as he studied the issue. “There are a lot of people who enjoy dinosaurs, but that can’t be the only shape that would sell well. People are creative and they need variety in their life.”

“They do.” Forgetting how worried I’d been only moments before, I nodded. “It’s either the blob shapes or the dino ones. It’s like no one cares about being unique.”

Gray gestured toward me as his head bobbed. “Exactly. If you ask for something different, everyone tells you to make them yourself. Who has time for that?”

Or a recipe.

I was smart enough to know chicken meat did not come in the shape or consistency of chicken nuggets, but how they ended up so perfect was a mystery.

“No one has time for that.” Or the skills, but I left that out. “That’s why I buy them online and have them delivered. It’s ridiculous, but it makes me happy.”

Gray scoffed. “It’s not ridiculous. It’s logical. Creative types need to have that happiness inside of them refilled on a regular basis or they turn into monsters. Trust me, I know that firsthand.”

Giggling as I finally slid the nuggets and some pillowy cheesy potato puffs that were heavenly into the oven, I couldn’t help picturing the drama he dealt with. “I can imagine that. I know a lot of people in the art world who are…let’s call them interesting.”

As he laughed, Gray waved me over to the table, looking relaxed and perfectly at home in my kitchen. “That’s a nicer word than I would use, but I guess I shouldn’t use language like that around a cute little.”

I truly appreciated his lack of subtlety, but it reminded me that I had questions.

Sitting down, I swallowed past my nerves and forced myself to get some of them out. “So you really are a Dom? You’re a Daddy?”

That was where I should start, right?

“I’m a Dom and I’ve got experience in the lifestyle—but I’ve never been a Daddy.” No point in hiding that and having it pop out later. “My last few relationships have been vanilla, but that’s my bad decisions, not a deliberate choice to avoid relationships that will actually go somewhere.”

My answer had his lips fighting to curl up into a smile, but the easily distracted cutie managed not to laugh. I had a feeling the thousand and one questions he was mulling over were helping with that. “What do you think about littles and Daddies and that kind of stuff?”
