It’d been added on after the house had been built, so it was weird, but big me and little me both liked it a lot.
Daddy was going to love it too once I showed him.
“Yes, you can see the rest now. Then we’ll talk about lunch.” Daddy laughed when I bounced. “Hungry, huh?”
“Yes, and maybe just a tiny bit done with staying focused and getting things done, and I ran out of gummy bears yesterday and forgot to get more, so I didn’t even have a good snack.” I almost laughed as Daddy groaned, but I pretended not to notice.
“I’ve been very good, Daddy.” Yep, I was just going to make sure he knew it. “Where should we start? The ones here are so perfect, Daddy. What else did you do? Did you find all the pictures? Which ones did you use?”
There were lots.
I liked buying pictures.
Big ones and little ones and happy ones and dark ones and silly ones and confusing ones…there were always so many good ones I had to buy. But that’d made putting them up even harder because the ones I didn’t pick would get jealous…and I couldn’t put them all up because there were too many.
It was sad.
Hugging me tight, Daddy kept me close as he got a very I’m such a good Daddy smile. “I’m going to let you see the living room first. Then I’ll show you what else I got done.”
“You got more than two places done?” How long had I been working? “That’s a lot.”
That should’ve taken days and days and days.
“No, I’d figured out the hard part before I came over, so the rest was easy.” He kissed my nose making me giggle. “I was just glad you had a big ladder.”
I was glad he was glad.
“It’s very tall. The lights are very tall.” Very tall lights were hard to change, but if I didn’t change them, the house was dark. Little me didn’t like the dark, so big me changed the bulbs even when I grumbled.
Hmm, maybe big me and little me should ask Daddy to change the bulbs next time?
Good Daddies like my Daddy liked doing important stuff for their littles.
“It was very helpful and made everything much easier.” Daddy was still looking very pleased with himself as he let me go and took my hand. “Let’s go see.”
“Yes.” Bouncing beside him, I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Oh, Daddy…”
My living room was so pretty and the walls weren’t empty anymore. “Daddy, I have a gallery too.”
It was magic.
Daddy had special wires at the top of the tall walls and he’d hung pictures from the wires. “Oh, Daddy, those are some of my favorites. I went to a party there and met littles and they only spoke French, but we colored and they were nice, and then the next day I found the paintings and they were like the colors my new friends who could only say hello used, so I had to get them.”
I liked meeting people…but only when I traveled because then they were far away and wouldn’t come over. I liked my quiet house, and people who knew me in person were kind of like relatives. They just showed up.
Far away friends couldn’t just show up.
They were the best.
Daddy was still looking very pleased with himself as he looked at my gallery. “I’m glad you like it. With the way I’ve set it up, we can change the pictures whenever you want to see new ones.”
Oh…
“Like you do, Daddy.” When people got bored and stopped paying money, they got switched out. “I can have new ones every day.”
Daddy cleared his throat and looked at me funny.
“Every month?”
That had him smiling again.
“Yes, every month sounds like a wonderful plan.” Squeezing my hand, Daddy turned us around to the other blank wall that wasn’t blank anymore. “Oh, Daddy, I have two galleries. That’s two times, right?”
Daddy sighed. “Two times a month?”
Nodding, I bounced on my toes and tugged at his hand so he’d know how important it was. “One time for each. That was what you’d said. It’s going to be so much fun.”
Daddy looked very serious and very Daddy. “I can’t decide if I’m being manipulated or if this is reasonable.”
Both.
Definitely both.
Kissing his cheek, I pulled him over to the other wall. “I got those from a pup that’s a little that’s a very chatty boy too and he only stops talking when he’s sketching and I liked them a lot, but I didn’t buy all of them because I thought I should share?”
I looked up at Daddy and loved that he was nodding. He even knew I was so right that he kissed my cheek. “I think that’s a very good plan. If you had all of them, he might not be able to get his pictures in galleries.”
