And realized what he’d done.

What the fuck had he been thinking? He dropped her, standing back as someone walked past them. The man stopped and looked at Isa closely.

“Isa? You all right?”

“I’m fine, thanks, Wade,” she replied with a small smile.

Wade frowned, turning to study Remy.

“I think I’m going to walk you back to your friends.”

“Oh no, I don’t—”

“Go,” Remy said.

Fuck, he hadn’t meant to sound so harsh. But he had to get her away from him before he lost control again.

Remy never lost control. Ever.

How did she have this much power over him?

She’s not yours yet. And you are not taking her outside the bathroom of a bar.

Nope.

She shot him a hurt look before forcing a smile as she turned to Wade. “I can make it back to my friends myself, thanks, Wade.”

“Sure?”

“Of course. Nothing happened.” Turning, she walked away.

Wade glared at him, but Remy ignored him as he watched her.

He couldn’t stop watching her. Wanting her.

Yeah, he was completely screwed.

Isa didn’t know what the hell had just happened.

Embarrassment had her hanging her head down as she moved through the crowd of people in the Wishing Well.

Why had he told her to go? She’d thought he wanted her. She was so confused.

She sucked in some shallow breaths, rubbing at her chest. It had to be anxiety.

There was no other reason for her to feel this way, right?

A rush of dizziness overwhelmed her and she quickly sat back at their table, reaching for a glass of water.

“Isa? Babe, you okay?” Cleo asked, staring down at her.

She plastered a carefree smile on her face. “Of course, why wouldn’t I be?”

“You took a while. I was about to come get you,” Kiesha said. “You got stomach problems? Was it the food? We need to tell Noah.”

“Nothing’s wrong with the food,” Cleo shot back, defending her boyfriend who owned the Wishing Well.

“Then what else would be giving her the runs?” Kiesha asked loudly.

Isa dropped her head into her hands. “I don’t have diarrhea, you guys. But please, continue to speak so loudly that they can hear you on the other side of the bar.”

“Ahh, it’s the other way, huh? Don’t worry, I’ve got some laxatives. They’ll fix you up right quick. Where did I put them?” Kiesha said as she searched through her handbag.

“Why do you have laxatives on you?” Georgie asked suspiciously. “Didn’t Ed tell you that you’re not to bring laxatives to work anymore?”

“What I carry around in my own bag is my business. And Ed can’t tell me what to do,” Kiesha said hotly.

“Right, but Harry can. And Ed will tattle, you know he will,” Cleo said with a smirk.

“Only if one of you says something. I’ve got to keep them with me in case Ed gets out of control. He’s so bossy at work.”

“That’s because he’s your boss,” Isa said dryly. “That’s kind of his job.”

“The man is getting too big for his britches,” Kiesha said. “Do you know he actually asked me to photocopy for him the other day? He knows that I don’t get along with the photocopier. That machine is a total sadist. It loves to make me cry. I’m being bullied at work and my boss doesn’t even care!”

They all stared at Kiesha.

“What? It’s true.”

No doubt it was.

“Uh-huh. Laxatives!” Kiesha held them up. Out of nowhere, Ed appeared and plucked them out of her hand.

“No,” was all he said before he disappeared.

“He moves quietly for such a big guy,” Cleo said. “If Noah ever gets out of bed in the morning before I do, he stomps around like a bull in a china shop.”

“Ed is definitely a good mover,” Georgie agreed with a dreamy smile.

Isa wasn’t going to turn around and look at anyone. She didn’t want to see if Remy was standing there, watching.

Or worse, that he wasn’t.

Why had he kissed her if he didn’t want her, though?

Instead, she kept her attention on her girls. They were all here except Gwen. She and Dominic were away for several weeks.

“That’s not fair!” Kiesha cried. “I was only trying to help Isa.”

“I am not constipated.” Isa leaned across the table to say quietly. “I’m fine. I took so long because I was talking to someone.”

Was she fine, though?

Why did she have frequent dizzy spells? And feel so tired all the time?

You’re being silly. You’re just not sleeping well because Loki is away.

That was part of it. The only problem was that she’d been feeling this way for a while.

Just then, Red started reading out the next question in the quiz, so she pretended to pay attention even though they all knew Juliet carried the weight on this team. It wasn’t that Isa wasn’t smart.

She just wasn’t Juliet smart.

And there was nothing wrong with that.

Despite how disappointed her father was that she hadn’t done better . . . done more with her life.
