“I thought you were asleep.”

“I can’t sleep without a goodnight kiss,” she told him.

“You can’t?”

“Nuh-uh, can I have one?”

“Of course.” He would give her anything she wanted. As long as it wasn’t to be away from him.

Sitting on the side of the bed, he leaned. Immediately she wrapped her arms around him, holding tight before giving him a wet kiss on the cheek. Not quite what he’d been expecting . . . but all right. He’d take it. Then she settled down back into bed.

So that was the trick to getting her to sleep? A kiss? Noted.

Should he get her pacifier for her?

But what if she started vomiting? Was that safe? It didn’t seem safe. No. He thought it’d be better if he didn’t.

She started snoring as he tucked her in. Surprised, he stared down at her as a huge snort came from her. He’d never heard her snore before. It had to be the alcohol.

Interesting.

After placing a bucket by the bed, he turned toward her.

“Bunny?”

Another snort.

Now, that was too amusing not to record. He used his phone to take a video. Sitting on the side of the bed, he decided that he needed to see what his Pup was doing. Nothing on the camera feeds. So, he searched for his tracker. He’d had to put one in each set of his shoes. Luckily, he didn’t have that many.

Hmm. Still at work at this time of night. What did he think he was playing at?

He went to text him, but how would he get here? By taxi? That wasn’t safe at this time of night.

It didn’t feel right to leave his girl. But he’d already disposed of all the pills and she was fast asleep. But what if she woke up alone and scared?

Urgh, having two Littles was meant to make things easier. Not harder.

Fuck.

He wasn’t used to this indecision.

This wasn’t him.

His Bunny was safe. She’d just sleep it off and he’d keep the camera feed on at all times. Perhaps he should tie her to the bed.

But if she had to get up to be sick . . .

This relationship shit was definitely complicated.

Brody was fucking miserable.

There was no other way to describe the state he was in. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d eaten or slept or even changed his clothes.

He missed girl.

Yeah, the visit from the Fox had thrown him off course. It made him pull into himself, trying to figure out what to do.

What was right versus what he wanted.

Because unfortunately, he thought those were two different things. He ought to tell Ink. Get his help and place Autumn under some sort of protection.

He should do that.

But he didn’t want to.

The Fox had the sort of charisma that could have you declaring that black was white and up was down. Just because he told you so, because it would make him happy.

And that was terrifying.

Because what could he do with power like that?

You know exactly what he could do.

But the Fox wasn’t a truly terrible guy, right? Sure, he was an assassin. But he’d done some good things and he was dealing with the assholes who were kidnapping and selling women.

Was it so wrong that Brody was attracted to him?

That he was keeping his visit a secret?

If the guy who kept visiting him was the Fox . . . although he was pretty sure he was.

But what about Autumn? He’d kept blowing her off this past week because he needed to keep her safe. And to do that, he needed to tell her about the Fox.

But that had been a mistake. His decision hadn’t made things better. Living like this wasn’t easier.

He was miserable.

This was stupid. He couldn’t stay away from her any longer. He needed her.

And the Fox? Well . . . he’d figure out what to do about him.

Maybe he should just tell her the truth.

On the one hand, he didn’t want to keep lying to her.

On the other hand . . .

It was the Fox. Knowing about him could endanger her. And he’d never do that.

“Hey, man, what are you doing here?”

He jumped, hitting his knee against the underside of his desk.

Ouch. Ow. Crap.

Don’t cry in front of Stone. Don’t cry in front of Stone.

He glanced over at the other man who was eyeing him with concern. “You okay, Brody?”

“Yep, uh-huh, fine. Just lost track of time. You know how it is.”

“You do tend to get lost in your work. But you’ve been more distracted than usual this past week. When was the last time you slept? Ate? Uh, bathed?”

He took a whiff at himself.

Aw. Darn.

He ran his hands over his face. “You’re right. Sorry.”

“Have you been home lately?” Stone glanced over at where he’d set up a bed on the sofa in his office. He’d been sleeping here to avoid going back to his apartment and thinking about stuff.
