I’d watched a few minutes later from my window as Cody came to pick her up in her car. The way he’d gotten out to help her in, the way his hands had lingered on her too long. He’d even strapped her in, and she’d clung to him like a slut before the two of them said something to each other that made them both laugh before he kissed her hair gently and closed the door with a smile. He’s always smiling these days; long gone is the glower I’m accustomed to seeing on his face.

And then there’s tonight. Again, I overheard talk about Cody being somewhere with his teammates. The reason I ran at the chance is that this, too, is new. Cody was never one for hanging out; it was only this last year that he’d started going out with the guys after the game and that last time is when I finally worked up the courage to do something. But that was the last time he hung out with them as well, because of her, I bet.

But tonight, he was going to be out with the guys at the same bar. This time I had no reason to doubt it because I’d overheard it from some of his teammates as I sat at a table behind them. They had no reason to lie or to lead me on like some of these bitches around here who I suspect have been playing games with me.

But he wasn’t there, and neither were his friends. Come to think of it, the house seems rather quiet as well, even for a Saturday night. I didn’t have time to think about their abysmal social life; I was too busy putting the finishing touches on my party plans for the blowout I was having next week. It’s the one thing I have to look forward to and my hope that Cody shows up.

I know the only way that might happen is if I invite her, which I’m more than willing to do. I just have to figure out how to do that after everyone saw the way I’ve reacted to her. My idea of getting close to her doesn’t seem plausible at this stage, and both her friends act like they speak a foreign language when I approach them.

That Jess girl doesn’t even try to hide the fact that she doesn’t like me, and Alexis, the one I was sure I could work, barely hides her contempt. It’s not fair that they get away with treating me like that. I have seniority in the chapter, but Melissa claims they’re not breaking any rules by ignoring me or not doing the things I order them to.

The days of hazing are long gone, I guess, and now all anyone has to do is mention suing or some such nonsense to get their way. Even I went through hazing just a few short years ago, what makes them so special?

I looked down at my tablet once again just to make sure I wasn’t forgetting anything. The bar where I was having the party is the local favorite of the frats and sorority houses on campus, so I knew the location at least would be a hit and everyone loves their wings, and the beer isn’t too shabby.

I would’ve prepared something better if I’d had the time, but this was a rush job, something I came up with last minute, so this was the best I could do for now. Later I’ll think of something better, but right now, I have to do this. I can’t believe I’ve been brought to this, having to invite these people I have no use for just to spend time in the same room as Cody.

Which brings me to my next problem, how do I invite that tramp without losing face? I’d planned to invite everyone but her in the beginning, but this was a better idea how better to show Cody and his friends and mine that I was better suited for him. I’d done some thinking and realized that anyone could sublease a car these days, and no doubt that’s what she’d done.

How else could she afford a car like that? I haven’t seen anything else about her that screams money, though everyone goes on and on about her mom, but that’s only because of the stuff she did in the sorority, I later found out.

So what she raised lots of money, my mom does that on a daily basis. I’ve never heard anyone outside of the sorority even mention the woman, but everyone knows mom and dad goes without saying. As a senator, the only people who haven’t heard of him are low-class idiots, of which I’m sure she’s one.

It seems to me like her mom peaked in college and faded away after because I can’t find anything about her either, while my mother’s face is plastered all over the web. Those thoughts made me feel a bit better, and then my mind went to Belinda and what she could possibly have wanted.
