And all I had to do was pretend to kill my mentor and best friend to do it.

The mafia was weird, even with our rules it sometimes didn’t make sense but in her arms, everything suddenly did.

Blood In. No Out.

EPILOGUE

King

“I have a thought.” All of the bosses sat around me, waiting for it, but I wasn’t sure how it would be received.

Things were calm, but I had suspicions.

Two of them, to be exact.

Made men.

Brothers that were coming over from Italy to fill in the ranks—mainly to help establish the new rise of the De Lange Family.

They were the best the Nicolasi Family had to offer, recent college graduates, playboys, and brothers.

They also managed to make the news at least once a week and had no respect for anyone but each other and themselves.

They liked women and money. In no specific order.

Ivan groaned. “I don’t want them in my Family, they’re crazy.”

Junior raised his hand. “You agreed to kill me.”

“We had a plan!”

“It hurt!”

“YOU TOLD ME TO—”

“Shhhh.” Ash waved us off. “I want to hear more about the psychos you decided to bring in, what sort of torture did you have in mind to train them?”

I grinned. “Grunt work, to earn their place.”

“Clean up?” Maksim asked.

“Security—for Raven and Tempest.”

Ash burst out laughing. “Oh shit, you’re serious? Both of them?”

“Well, I figure one will quit pointing out the weak link and the one who stays strong gets to move up the ranks faster.” I shrugged. “Simple math.”

Maksim shook his head. “Every single person you’ve put on her has quit, they willingly offer to take bullets for her in an effort to be able to quit their jobs.”

“Rumors.” I rolled my eyes.

Ash shook his head. “No, I distinctly remember last year when a car exhaust popped the guy said, thank God and moved in front of her—with a smile on his face.”

Ivan snorted out a laugh. “Poor guy.”

“Poor me,” Junior grumbled. “I had to take her and Serena shopping the next day and wanted to ram my head through a wall.”

It was decided then.

The guys left, and I was alone again in my office. I slowly walked over to my drawer and grabbed the small horse figurine out of the box.

I’d made additions to it.

Just a small one.

I gave the white horse a stand and engraved on the front of the metal was. “Rise of the De Langes.”

A symbol of strength, no longer a symbol of fear.

The End
