And suddenly, I’d ducked and slipped out of his grip. “You’ve got to catch me first,” I told him. Then I was off and running, kicking off my heels as I went, sprinting down the darkened parking lot. I heard him curse and then his huge, heavy footsteps getting faster and faster as he pounded after me. I dodged around a table, feinted left and went right, darted past him—
He grabbed my wrist, hauled me back to him and then I yelped as I was heaved up and over his shoulder. His hand came down once on my rump in a spank that promised more to come, and then he was marching towards the inflatable castle and bounding onto it, setting the whole thing wobbling crazily. He flung me down on my back, as promised, and I bounced a foot in the air before I flopped, giggling.
He grabbed my wrists and pinned them above my head, then hunkered down on top of me. He looked down at my dress. “Now do I tug this thing all the way up?” he mused. “Or just rip it off?”
He didn’t get a chance to do either. Because at that moment, there was a growl from Atlas, who’d woken up and was feeling left out of the fun, and then he was bounding onto the castle, his warm, furry body butting up against us. There was a ripping, hissing sound, and the battlements started to collapse around us. “Aw, Atlas!” sighed Colton. And then he leaned down and kissed me, and I kissed him back, and Atlas licked both our ears, and I decided there was no better place to be in the world.
