“I respect that.” I smile, reaching out and taking his hand. “Thank you, Charlie.”
“Give me absolutely everything you can, and when you get there, I will give you strict instructions. Please follow them. It’ll be the only way we can get you back if something happens.”
Swallowing, I nod. “Don’t you worry about me, I’m a pro at sending out fly kicks.”
He chuckles, but I can still see the concern in his eyes. “This sister really means something to you, huh?”
I can’t tell him the full truth, that I brought this on myself.
For now, I’ll let him think it’s all for Clara.
“Family,” I say, lifting my coffee cup. “If they don’t kill us, they make us stronger, right?”
He snorts. “So I’ve heard. Be smart, Addison, I kind of like seeing this new life you’ve made.”
My brows go up now. “Are you saying that you think the club is good for me?”
Grunting, he sips his coffee. “I’m saying you’re strong, you’re happy, and I like that. I choose not to think about how that has come about.”
I shoot him a grin. “I promise you, they’re not all bad. Now, tell me about this chip, is it going to hurt? It’s not going to get lost in my body is it? Travel to my brain? Turn me into some sort of robot?”
He laughs. “Not that I know of. We have used them before, they’re very effective. It goes into your hand, just beneath the skin. It won’t move. We’ll take it out when you return.”
Sounds fancy.
“And you can see my location?”
“Hasn’t failed me yet.”
Here’s hoping that streak keeps up, because I’m relying on that tiny little chip to possibly save my life.
No big deal.
“WE’LL HAVE EYES ON you the entire time, and you’ll be wearing a bulletproof vest just in case. Nobody is goin’ to do anything to hurt you, I swear it.”
Jackson is standing in front of me, flanked by Spike, Cade, Muff and Goat. Their faces are stern, and I can see it bothers all of them that I’m about to do this. As predicted, Wesley came to the party when Janine contacted his sister, telling her that she wanted to give Wesley the money.
He agreed to meet Janine at his sister’s house because he wants that money more than he wanted to stay in hiding. The idiot is so paranoid he brought all the guns and jewels he had with him, no doubt thinking with the money, he could just get the hell out of there in that moment.
He thought he was winning.
He wasn’t happy when he found out it was a set-up.
He actually thought Janine was going to give him that money.
What happens to him now, isn’t our problem.
We were told to bring him to Marshall, and that’s exactly what we’ll do.
All I have to do is drop the guns and the jewels in the shipping container and get out of there.
Simple, right?
Tonight is the night the shipment goes out, and we’re only hours away from the drop. Charlie kept his end of the bargain and got me a tracking chip. It was a painless insertion, as he promised. It just went right into my hand and is invisible to the naked eye. I can feel it if I put my fingers on there and search around, but otherwise, you’d never know it was there.
We’ve covered all our angles, but that doesn’t mean I’m not absolutely terrified.
We’re dealing with a monster, and he could turn on us without a second thought. We just have to hope that he wants what Wesley has more than he wants a war with the club. I’m certain he doesn’t, and it’s all I’m hanging onto. This is our only chance to clean up the mess I made.
Nodding to acknowledge what Jackson has said, I hold his eyes. “I’m scared.”
Stepping forward, he curls his hand around the back of my neck. “I will burn the entire world to the ground if anythin’ happens to you, baby girl. Nobody will lay a hand on you, do you hear me?”
Swallowing, I swing my eyes to Cade.
He’s not happy about this, I know it, but he also knows there is no other option. If we don’t do this, we’ll have a war that could cost so many lives. We can take on Marshall, but it wouldn’t be without bloodshed and that is the last thing any of us wants. That means we’re left with little option.
“I’ll be okay,” I tell him, my voice soft. “You know me, I’ll worm my way out of anything.”
He steps forward and Jackson releases me. Taking my chin, he tips my head up, so his eyes are locked onto mine. “You do whatever it takes to get out of there if anything goes wrong, do you understand me? I don’t fuckin’ care what it takes, until we can get to you, you stay alive.”
